In that great democratic bastion that is Chicago yet another deadly weekend with the tally still rising for the weekend. So far 60 shot 9 dead and the weekend isn't even over yet. Think it'll make the national news? Nah no votes in it. Father's Day weekend marred by violence in Chicago: Toddler, teens among 9 dead, 60 shot |

Let's hope Chicago doesn't break the record for 2020 shootings which by the way had half of the shootings occurring on Sunday just 3 weeks ago. Interesting that Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the US yet they matter little to criminals who are committing the vast majority of these shootings. 85 shot, 24 fatally, over Chicago’s most violent weekend of 2020 |

I'm amazed that is a country that allows people to "open carry" That there's not more Shooting and killing.... Thats America..... Still living the Wild West...... 1 polling place for thousands of people..... Yeah right..... you live in a dictatorship.... Not a democracy..... Demand change!!!!!..... Not working...... Violence...... Is the end result..... |

The longest I've waited to vote here, would be about 10 mins.... We very well organized, and it's law to turn up at the polling place to get you ballot, What you do with it is up to you.( IE you can spoil it...) |

I keep trying to tell you that you'd be surprised how many Democrats/Liberals/Progressives own guns, AI. |

If the voting thing has been around for decades, Why do you stand for it..... It's hardly democracy if it's difficult for citizens to vote in a fair and just way..... Your system needs to change..... There would be about 10 polling places within 5 minute drive here..... Why the difference in your country, I don't want to seem mean, I'm just asking, It might be it's something that you are accustomed too,and have never had another system pointed out to you . But for people to wait hours to Vote seems very antiquated, And I would never trust A voting machine...... |

It's not a Fair and democratic Vote if people can't Vote fairly.... You system needs to change.... Making it easier for average Joe to cast his vote that is. His Democratic Right.... Anything else is wrong, In a free and Fair democracy....... |

Your first post politicized it. "In that great democratic bastion that is Chicago yet another deadly weekend with the tally still rising for the weekend. ot quite sure why you seem to have issue with it." So I'm not quite sure why you're in a twist about it. |

A lot of Chicago's guns come from Indiana where they are much easier to get. |

I'm sticking this in politics. Let me know if you object, anyone. AI, please stop trying to make every reply personal. Other people are entitled to opinions too. You may not realise it, but Carbon just did what you always do, picked a single point and disputed it. At least he did not try to twist your words the way you did for Witchy. And yes, of course, every single life matters, AI. But (Tragically) you can't save everyone. You can improve things which the zeitgeist has noticed. Today the 'spirit of the age' points out (rightfully) that black people have an ongoing problem with opression. Raising the spectre of ebola at a breast cancer awareness campaign is both pointless and tactless and saying how the graveyard is full of tragedies, is not the way to comfort the widow at a funeral. You can only bring light to the darkness in those specific places where there is already a candle to light. This is, quite simply, a concept whose time has come. In my personal opinion, it is well overdue, but the zeitgeist says now. |

And I can think of 5 mothers of children murdered in Chicago who would disagree that the conversation about this issue is pointless and tactless whenever and wherever it is raised and that it should have been raised long long ago. And if it had been addressed and made a issue maybe their kids would still be alive today. Silence is violence. 102 shot and 14 killed, 5 of them kids in Chicago this weekend. Superintendent David Brown said at a press conference on Sunday. “Our strategy ends up with arrests, and if you arrest someone that’s a violent offender, and they get right back out of jail and put on home monitoring, and no one monitors, we’re just chasing our tail.” The rise in shootings came three weeks after the most violent day in Chicago in 60 years, with 18 people killed over a 24-hour period on Sunday, May 31. “We’ve never seen anything like it at all,” Max Kapustin, senior research director at the University of Chicago Crime Lab, told the Sun-Times. “I don’t even know how to put it into context. It’s beyond anything that we’ve ever seen before.” |
