    <![CDATA[<strong>Event Date:</strong> June&nbsp;25&nbsp;2008 - November&nbsp;29&nbsp;2008<br /><strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.avianflutalk.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=3448" rel="nofollow">RICHARD-FL</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> Alternate to TAMIFLU<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> June&nbsp;25&nbsp;2008 at 2:14pm<br /><br /><P><FONT style=": #000000"><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00>I recently went to my Doctor for a annual physical.&nbsp; I asked about Bird Flu and if he would give me TAMIFLU for use by myself and other family members.&nbsp; He stated that with the Government and States buying up all they could find that I would have a hard time finding any.&nbsp;&nbsp;They would need to test me to see if it was the Flu before giving me TAMIFLU.</FONT></EM></strong></P><DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00></FONT></EM></strong></DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00>That afternoon I was in a Major brand Drug Store and asked if they carried TAMIFLU as a prescription drug.&nbsp; Their answer was NO, that all amounts are held by the State and Federal Government.&nbsp; They stated if I had the Flu and was prescribed TAMIFLU then they would be able to have it delivered with 48 hours.&nbsp;48 hours is too late and too little.&nbsp; It needs to be taken within 12/24 hours to have effect according to the CDC. Cost $128.95 for 10 &nbsp;30mg tabs. (Enought for one person)&nbsp; </FONT></EM></strong><DIV></DIV><DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00></FONT></EM></strong></DIV><DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00></FONT></EM></strong></DIV><DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00></FONT></EM></strong></DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00></FONT></EM></strong><DIV></DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>So what to do?&nbsp; I did some research and found a drug that you can buy over the counter at a vary reasonable price.&nbsp; What is it?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ELDERBERRY'S.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </DIV><DIV></FONT></EM></strong>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00>**"...Two randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind studies demonstrated the elderberry extract, Sambucol, effectively inhibited both influenza A and B strains when given orally to patients in the first 48 hours of influenza symptoms..".&nbsp;</FONT></EM></strong></DIV><DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00></FONT></EM></strong>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00>The results of the study are:&nbsp; "...In the earlier study, 27 individuals experiencing typical early flu symptoms were given Sambucol or placebo daily for three days—2 tablespoons (children) or four tablespoons (adults). Patients were followed for six days and symptoms monitored. Serum from all subjects was analyzed for antibodies to influenza A and B at the initial dose and during the convalescent phase. In the treatment group, significant improvement in flu symptoms was observed in 93.3 percent of subjects within two days after initial dosing, while 91.7 percent of the control group demonstrated improvement after six days..."</FONT></EM></strong></DIV><DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00></FONT></EM></strong>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00>&nbsp;It may not be as effective as TAMIFLU, but it can be found now in your health food stores.&nbsp; I plan on buying enough to start my family on it as soon as&nbsp;Bird flu starts&nbsp; to spread and continuing for 12 weeks.</FONT></EM></strong></DIV><DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00></FONT></EM></strong>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00>** Quotes are taken from another WEB site involved in H5N1 research.&nbsp;&nbsp;</FONT></EM></strong></DIV><DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00></FONT></EM></strong>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV><strong><EM><FONT color=#00ff00>Does anyone else have&nbsp;information about&nbsp;drugs that MAY eliminate or replace TAMIFLU?&nbsp; or other ideas?</FONT></EM></strong></DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV></DIV><DIV></DIV><DIV></DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV></FONT>]]>
