Panic in Asaba over Ebola scareTHERE was panic Thursday at the Federal Medical Centre Asaba, Delta State, when news of a patient with the dreaded Ebola Virus filtered in. Speaking on his mobile phone, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Leo Erhunmwunse said that the patient who was brought in today was stooling and vomiting, two of the symptoms of the contagious disease but was yet to be determined if he was infected. He said: “A patient who was stooling and vomiting was actually brought to the hospital today, symptoms of Ebola, but we need to confirm if he is suffering from the disease. We need to carry out series of test to verify if he has the virus or not. People should not panic. The situation is under control.” Erhunmwunse said that the hospital will need to conduct series of tests to determine if the patient actually had the dreaded disease, adding that it could take a few days before the results are out. A check at the hospital situated at the intersection of Nnebisi and Anwai Roads revealed wards that were almost empty but there were doctors, nurses and other medical workers who strolled about. The forlorn state of the hospital may however not be unconnected with the fact that doctors just resumed work after a prolonged nationwide strike and so activities are yet to pick up. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/news/national-news/177756-panic-in-asaba-over-ebola-scare |
