The most recent deaths were in Cairo, and the Nile Delta governorates of Menoufiya, Fayoum and Kafr El-Sheikh, according to the Minister of Local and Administrative Development Adel Labib. The minister added that infections are most common in the Nile Delta governorate of Sharqiya. Officials from the veterinary services body have launched awareness campaigns around the governorate in an effort to educate the public and to eradicate the virus, which is spread by handling diseased birds. The health ministry has reiterated its calls for people who handle poultry to seek immediate treatment if they start to experience flu symptoms. It also advises them to cover their noses and mouths when they deal with any kind of domesticated birds. In Egypt, most cases of bird flu have been identified in rural areas, where villagers tend to raise poultry in their homes, increasing exposure to live or dead infected birds. Bird flu first appeared in Egypt in 2006.

Egypt bird flu death toll at 16 in 2015A 27-year old woman who raised birds in her home in the Sohag governorate, died of bird flu on Sunday. Tahta Fevers Hospital received the victim, who was suffering from bird flu symptoms, before she was transferred to Assiut Fevers Hospital upon the request of her family, according to a medical source at Tahta hospital. A medical team inspected the woman's house in Tahta and conducted tests on those who were in contact with the woman as a preventive measure. The Al-Arabiya news website quoted Local Development Minister Adel Labib on 11 March 2015 as saying that the total bird flu death toll in Egypt since the start of the winter season in September 2014 amounted to 33 victims. The largest number of victims during that time were in Sharqiya with 10 deaths, followed by Assiut with 7 victims, according to Labib. The spread of the H5N1 virus is facilitated by the large number of unlicensed poultry farms outside the scope of supervision by the Agriculture Ministry, in addition to the lack of awareness among people who breed birds in their houses. The death rate from bird flu is 37.4 percent in Egypt, compared to 55 percent on the international level, particularly in China. According to the State Information Service, around two million people working in the poultry industry and eight million of their relatives have been affected since the emergence of bird flu in Egypt. Woman dies of bird flu, raising disease death toll to 15 in 2015An Epidemiological Map For Bird Flu - Reuters CAIRO: A 27-year-old woman died of H5N1 avian flu in Upper Egypt’s governorate of Sohag Sunday, marking the 15th death in the country from the disease in 2015, a health ministry source told Youm7. Upon suffering from bird flu symptoms, the woman’s family transported her from Sohag to the neighboring Governorate of Asyut where she was held in the fever hospital before she died on Sunday, said the source. Most avian flu cases in Egypt have been detected in impoverished rural areas, where villagers are accustomed to raising poultry on the rooftops of their homes to supplement their diet, Ahmed Abdel Hamed, a former health ministry official previously told Youm7. A health ministry’s medical team, who inspected the woman’s house in Tahta village north of Sohag, confirmed she raised poultry on the rooftop of her house. As a preventive measure, the team conducted medical checkups on those who were in contact with the woman. According to the State Information Service (SIS), around 2 million Egyptians are directly dealing with poultry; either by working in the poultry industry or raising poultry in their houses. In both cases, they are outside the scope of supervision by the ministries of agriculture and health. The disease first appeared in Egypt in 2006. The death toll of bird flu in the country reached 10 in 2014. From 2003 until October 2014, there were 686 cases testing positive for H5N1 globally, of which 393 people have died, according to a World Health Organization (WHO) report published in October.

something very wrong here

these last two posts show that there is some very odd going on in egypt i posted about this a few weeks ago
might be a good idea for much more research on this
i think they down playing it to a great extent
here is another from 4 march Egypt bird flu death toll reaches 15 in 2015 The Health Ministry announced Tuesday the death of a 33-year old woman in Cairo of bird flu, the infection of a 16-year old girl in Sharqiya, and the cure of a 2-year old child in Beheira. The woman's death has raised the number of victims in Egypt this year to 15. The ministry added in a statement that the number of bird flu cases receiving treatment at Health Ministry affiliated hospitals is 11 to date. Other recent deaths include a young man who died on Wednesday 25 February and two other victims who passed away earlier in February. All were from Fayoum. The death rate from bird flu is at 37.4 percent in Egypt, compared to 55 percent on the international level, particularly in China. According to the State Information Service, approximately two million people involved in the poultry industry and eight million of their relatives have been affected since the emergence of bird flu in Egypt. In 2014, the World Health Organization published a report on influenza A (H5) activity from 18 February to 23 September of that year. The report mentioned that influenza cases in Egypt included poultry and humans.

According to WHO, as of 3rd March, Egypt has had 88 cases and 26 deaths from avian influenza A(H5N1) so far in 2015. We know that WHO plays down outbreaks by insisting on only counting lab-confirmed cases so the above figures are the absolute minimum. About the different figures. One report talked of the winter season, whereas some people (like WHO) count by calender year.
The current outbreak in Egypt started to get legs (or wings) at the end of 2014, so the deaths there could be added with deaths this year to account for the current 'winter season'.
WHO reports 26 deaths this year and 10 deaths last year in Egypt, so it looks like the 'season' total is 36 (as of 3rd March 2015).
ps. CDC in the States counts its flu statistics according to a 'flu season year' rather than by calender year.

At least 2 Egyptian cases fatalThe three patients described in the health department reports are a 1-year-old child from Asyut governorate, a 27-year-old woman from Asyut who was hospitalized and died in Sohag governorate, and a 52-year-old woman who died from her infection on Mar 29 in Port Said, according to reports translated and posted on Mar 28 and Mar 29 by *******, an infectious disease news message board. Few details, however, are known about the FAO case entries, other than the locations and that they are human H5N1 cases. Three of the cases in that group appear to be from Sharqia governorate, with one each from Beheira, Dakahlia, Faiyum, and Menofia governorates. It has been difficult to pinpoint exactly how many cases have been reported in Egypt so far this year, because some of the official reports don't match or have inconsistent information in them. *******' case list, based on its tracking of official notifications and statements, puts the total at 128 cases this year, 28 of them fatal.
