The summer seems to be passing us by so quickly, I wish it would slow down just a bit. After watching what has been going on in Greece, it has prompted me to buy a few more canned good items. So I have been sorting and rotating and adding to my pantry: canned vegetables, chocolate chips, baking powder, getting some baking items for the holidays.
I found at a yard sale today a couple of books on making solar projects and another one on crock pot meals that I picked up for .25 and .50 each. Which I am looking forward to reading as I picked up a nice crock pot yard saling a few weeks ago for $2. |

I started my balcony garden :) So far, I have Rosemary, Basil, and Thyme. When the season is right again, I'll add small veggies. Until then, just herbs for now.

I'm the prepper that says prep what your family is going to eat. Mine is not going to eat rice, maybe if they were starving, but if I have the choice to prep in advance, it's not going to be rice that I buy. My daughter or boyfriend won't eat rice at all. Both will eat pinto beans or black beans if they are mixed in chili or casseroles. I have a lot of canned meats, canned veggies and frozen foods. So I plan on doing casseroles.

I love rice and hate beans unless its in chili or burritos. I also buy broths to use as base.

Hachi, I love the idea of dwarf trees, I wonder if I could have them inside my house, lol. We usually eat fresh fruit and veggies year round, so if I could find some dwarf trees that remained house small that would be awesome. I think I need to build a green house.

Yesterday I bought a case canned bean items that my daughter likes and yes I know I could make these cheaper from scratch, but she really likes certain types in the can, lol: refried beans, chili beans pinto beans. Also bought a case of carrots and green beans. Getting stocked up this week.

lol if only that could get me to eat okra, Lopper. That's a good prep suggestion though. I can't eat peanut butter. No known peanut allergy, but peanut butter turns my stomach (as a kid, it never did though).
A greenhouse would be neat to make, Penham. I need to look more into these dwarf trees though. Supposedly they can be house grown according to articles I've read. |

My daughter is a college athlete so she actually eats pretty healthy, very little junk food, no soda, no alcohol, very little processed frozen foods. Canned food items are her "junk food" items lol.
Yes, a greenhouse would be nice. Or I was thinking a sun porch? I currently have a large covered patio (already enclosed on 2 sides) that could be enclosed and made into a room, it would have to be kept heated, but with lots of windows you could grow stuff in there, it's on the south side of the house, gets the sun all day long. Went to the store yesterday and stocked up on toilet paper and paper towels for my house and my daughters dorm room. |

Yes the dwarf trees interest me. I mostly drink water, so occasionally I like to put lime and lemon slices. So dwarf trees for limes, lemons and oranges is something I would be interested in. I need to do some research.
