News > World > Americas > US politics Trump impeachment: Evangelical Christian magazine founded by Billy Graham says president must be removed from office ‘The facts in this instance are unambiguous,’ Christianity Today editor says Andrew BuncombeSeattle @AndrewBuncombe 2 hours ago 34 comments An evangelical Christian magazine founded by the late Billy Graham has called for Donald Trump’s removal from office, accusing him of acting in a “profoundly immoral” manner. In an editorial published a day after the House of Representatives impeached Mr Trump on charges of abusing his office and obstructing Congress, Christianity Today said the president needed to go, throwing down a gauntlet to those Republicans in the Senate who have indicated they will vote against the measures, enabling him to stay in office. “The typical CT approach is to stay above the fray and allow Christians with different political convictions to make their arguments in the public square, to encourage all to pursue justice according to their convictions and treat their political opposition as charitably as possible,” the magazine’s team said. Trump impeachment: Who's who in the Ukraine scandal Donald Trump The Whistleblower The Second Whistleblower Rudy Giuliani Graham, considered among the most influential white religious leaders in the nation’s history, founded the magazine in 1956, though it is now longer connected to his family. Mr Galli said Democrats had been “out” for Mr Trump since he entered office. But he added: “The facts in this instance are unambiguous: The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents. That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral.” Watch more Democrat defects to Republicans after opposing Trump impeachment Trump’s lawyers could argue he hasn’t been impeached despite vote It’s not just symbolic — Trump’s impeachment will change 2020 This is how Trump’s impeachment compares with Clinton’s The move is significant because the publication is read by more than four million people every month, who form part of a demographic base the president has tried hard to cultivate. In 2016, Mr Trump pushed for the support of evangelical Christians, despite his history as a thrice-married, failed casino magnate and doubts about his religious convictions. Polls indicated he gained the support of 81 per cent of evangelicals, who make up to 25 per cent of voters. The article concluded: “To use an old cliché, it’s time to call a spade a spade, to say that no matter how many hands we win in this political poker game, we are playing with a stacked deck of gross immorality and ethical incompetence.” MORE ABOUT DONALD TRUMP | BILLY GRAHAM | CHRISTIANITY Independent news email Enter your email address Continue Register with your social account or click here to log in I would like to receive morning headlines Monday - Friday plus breaking news alerts by email GET IN TOUCH Contact us Jobs OUR PRODUCTS Subscriptions Install our apps Archive OTHER PUBLICATIONS Evening Standard Novaya Gazeta EXTRAS All topics Voucher codes Advertising guide Syndication LEGAL Code of conduct and complaints Contributors Cookie policy Privacy notice User policies |

To be honest, Trump is expected to attack Democrats - that is part of his job. Nasty! Yes! but part of the job - that is the sick game of politics.
However this President attacks even his own people if they cross him. McCain (a true patriotic hero!) for instance. McCain heads a long list of those who were Republican, or working for them, people attacked by an unscrupulous Trump. My opinion on that is unprintable. I would be evicted from the site for horrific rudeness, yet still fail to express all the vitriol he earned. POTUS now starts with the words "Piece Of" in my vocabulary. |
