Columbus Humane closes after accepting dog with infectious disease

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Columbus Humane Society closed Friday after a dog accepted from a southern Ohio shelter presented an infectious disease.

Columbus Humane said the infected dog was housed in a medical quarantine and there was limited exposure to other dogs.

"Even though the dog was isolated from others, we will follow our protocols to ensure the health and safety of our population before reopening for adoptions," Columbus Humane wrote on Facebook.

If you have an appointment with their Animal Support Center Friday, you are asked to call 614-777-PETS ext. 208 to confirm it.

Sorry folks, I can't find out what the disease is.  My guess would be either parvovirus or distemper both of which are deadly to dogs and highly contagious. I could be wrong.

Here is my source, but there is no mention of what the disease is there either.:  https://www.10tv.com/article/columbus-humane-closes-after-accepting-dog-infectious-disease
