I just saw this on Yahoo.com, 10pm USA Eastern Time . The original article comes from NewsMax.com.
Can someone find this article from AP, Reuters, BBC, or some other source? I have always felt that NewsMax tended to be a little on the "alarmist" side. These other sources may be a little more reliable. Apparently Texas Governor Rick Perry announced this on television. Did anyone see this on television? This may actually be a smart move to designate particular hospitals to be "Ebola treating hospitals". http://www.newsmax.com/US/Dallas-Presbyterian-Ebola-patients-virus/2014/10/21/id/602164/

It wouldn't surprise me if Texas designated certain hospitals for Ebola patients. New York State has designated ten hospitals for Ebola patients. The nearest one to Buffalo where I live is two hours away in Rochester.
I'm sure it's too difficult to train ALL the staff in ALL the hospitals to deal with Ebola. Narrow it down to certain hospitals and you will have a better trained staff.

Why doesn't the US set up an Ebola treatment centre in one of its offshore territories, like Guam? If the US are insisting on flying in any of its citizens who have Ebola, why not fly them to an island and treat them there? At least the staff would be isolated too.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

I'm not seeing any other sources besides the ones you have listed. Perhaps another will pick the story up by tomorrow or we can rule it out.

http://thescoopblog.dallasnews.com/2014/10/gov-rick-perry-announces-two-new-ebola-treatment-facilities-ut-southwestern-in-dallas-and-utmb-in-galveston.html/
“This is a fully contained facility, just like Nebraska and Emory,” he said. The state’s plan will provide relief for Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, which has been at the epicenter of the Ebola scare for weeks. “That hospital has been on the front line,” Perry said. “They have paid a heavy price.” Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, who also appeared with Perry at UT Southwestern, agreed that the doctors and nurses at Presbyterian deserve a break. “These are our hometown healthcare heroes,” he said. “They are tired. … It would be inhumane if … they were forced into continuing.” Presbyterian officials, meanwhile, said they would still be involved in the Ebola response by sharing their knowledge with other health-care providers. “A coordinated response is in all our best interests, and we remain active participants in discussions to advance the shared goal of defeating this insidious disease,” according to a written statement from the hospital. |
