It's hard to believe it's December already! Is everyone ready for Christmas? I haven't even thought about working on anything for the month, probably taking the month off since December is usually really busy work wise and volunteer wise. What is everyone working on?

December is a time to use up some of the preps from the past year in the celebrations of the time of year.

As the saying goes "Store what you eat and eat what you store" - So during the year I try to build up stocks of what I use for Christmas, knowing that, if all was well, I would use them to celebrate this time of year. If things were bad I would have some special foods to brighten a weary diet of emergency food.

The other advantage apart from having some special foods in stock, is that it spreads the costs around the year. One problem I have found with this is that many of items (like 'dried' fruit being softer than before) have shorter shelf lives than they had years ago.

I hit the after Christmas sales yesterday for prepping items. Walmart had all their shelled, bagged 20oz. bags of nuts in the produce department marked to $1 a bag, which is an awesome buy. I bought about 20 bags of cashews, pecans, almonds and walnuts. We love nuts so they probably won't last long, lol. They also had bags of nuts with shells on but I didn't get those. I did get some dried pineapple for $1 a bag too. They also had whole pies, 2 dozen packs of Christmas cookies and cupcakes, peanut brittle, peppermint pretzels, peppermint bark all from the bakery marked down to $1 each.

I need masks pretty desperately. The air quality in orange county was so bad when I got back from my Central Valley hometown yesterday, I felt immediately sick. My sinuses were on fire, I was having coughing fits, and felt nauseated. Do you guys have any mask recommendations for bad air quality ? Is N95 alright or would something better be more recommended. When the fires were still rampant, I did the stairs I always do in O.C., which are 426 steps. Normally, I do it 2-3x consecutively, but I couldn't even do it once all the way without being thrown into a 45 min off and on coughing fit and I wasn't even near the fires.
Be prepared! It may be time....^_^v
