Ok so I have a molar with a crack in it. The PAIN in the last 24 hours was the worse pain I have ever felt.   I had an Endodontal Doctor pull out the roots basically a root canal done on the tooth. I am doing great tonight.

Lesson, if TSHTF you need dental pliers so you can pull teeth. This tooth will have to be pulled in the next two weeks because the crack is way down the root and the tooth is not worth saving.

I have dental pliers but after all this huge pain I figured I needed to tell all of you because anyone can crack a tooth. The pain was so bad if I had not had access to dental help I would have pulled the tooth myself.

I used the oil of clove helped a small amount at the beginning but when it got worse did not touch the pain.

We need to remember things like this in our preps.

They can't fix it with a crown? I had a molar crack down to the root, and I feel for you - the pain was too much for me to chew anything. My dentist stabilized it with a crown though, and seventeen years later it still gives me no trouble. Just a thought.

My damage is so bad that a crown is not worth it, I have bone loss. They have to do a bone graft and I am too old to want to deal with another procedure in a few years. Thanks for th suggestion!

Thanks, it really makes me feel good that you and many others care about me and others on AFT. Since losing my husband it is nice to have some feed back from people that care! Thanks Jacksdad!

Glad you are doing better FluMom. Tooth pain is the worst! I have had a couple of root canals and crowns, I am one of those that would pretty much do anything to save a tooth, lol. I have a sort of phobia of not having my teeth, lol. I hope I never have to get dentures, lol.

Hey they have dental implants for whole mouths my 86 year old aunt got a full set upper and lower. She had really bad teeth and she did alright and loved them. There is hope for all of us as we age and our teeth get bad.

Flumom, I never knew they had dental implants for whole sets of teeth? wow I googled it and checked into it. Why I didn't realize if you could do it for one or two teeth you couldn't do it for all I'm not sure lol? That is awesome! Hopefully I won't have to get that done anytime soon, but it's nice to know it's an option.

Well you need three things in a dental prep kit.
1. Tooth extractor and elevator kit with several different sizes.
2. Oral Pain Relief Swabs with Benzocaine 20%
3. Some type of dental repair for fillings and caps such as Dentek.

That should cover the basics then some. Cause face it if you can't fix it then you are going to pull it so might as well have the right utensils for the job..

Oh, all laughs but when TSHTF you will all be looking for me and all my dental tools to pull that tooth that is KILLING you...LOL! Just kidding guys but really I went through some real pain and made me think what if there was no dentist, no pain killer and no ice! Dang makes my mouth hurt and I just had a root canal to kill the pain!

I bet people will take a pliers when TSHTF and pull a tooth if it hurts as much as mine did I just like to make things easy.

Found lots of you tube showing how to pull a tooth and I learned a lot. Love you tube.

keeping up with dental work isn't exactly an exciting "prep"

but it can easily be a matter of life or death

I know of several people who died due to untreated abscesses

I had a friend take out his own molar, but unfortunately it cracked in two as it was coming out and sliced his gum open. I'm sure it's an isolated case. but be warned that it's not without pitfalls.
I have huge roots, and the last time I had a tooth out, it took 45 minutes and the poor dentist was sweating like he'd been lifting weights. Don't relish the thought of pulling one of my own Confused

Satori, You are so right!

Back in our "troglodite" past, dental abscesses were among human kind's biggest killers.  Just ask WillobyBrat, its his favourite subject, the fossil record is full of tooth-related death!

Yep - if the infection didn't get you, the pain would probably see you starve. Horrible thought.

Well, this has been a terrifying at times comical thread to read.  Just picturing JD's dentist up on the dental chair on his knees with a vice grip lodged in JD's mouth, sweating bullets, pulling with all his might, yelling to the top of his lungs, COME OUT YOU B*STARD!

Yeah, I'm pretty horrified right now.  Maybe I'll just have them all pulled now & not have to worry about that later.

Poor man was leaning on my chin with one hand and using the other to pull with all his strength. I was all numbed up so I couldn't feel much of anything - I felt bad for him to be honest. First tooth I've had pulled in forty years, but I don't remember it being that hard last time.

Charlie you make a good point here. My tooth was cracked and had to come out and I am over a week out from th tooth pull and I am fine it is healing. However what will people do for wisdom teeth!

I was 28 when my wisdom teeth started to come Down and there was not enough room. The pain was about a 6-7 in my lower jaw when that happened. The oral surgeon had to open my gums and dig them out. Whe TSHTF people will be in big trouble if they don't have a dentist to do wisdom teeth and no anesthesia. Bummer   ðŸ˜¢

"Thanks for the suggestion. Tooth pain is really the worst. I too had severe pain when my wisdom tooth got erupted which was later extracted and medicated from an Orthodontic clinic in Toronto. This pain will gradually increase with time as the wisdom teeth continue to grow in misaligned or sideways, pressing on nerves and bone, and crowding surrounding teeth. Prior to the wisdom tooth extraction, I had tried the remedy of using oil of clove to get rid of tooth pain but it didn't reduce the intensity of the pain a bit. Finally I was relieved after the orthodontic surgery."

Come on Charlie the Dentist. That is a cute little attempt at spam. It only took me half a cup of coffee. I will leave your post but I'm editing your link out. "...relieved after the orthodontic surgery."

Drink mullein tea 4x a day. Make it 4x strength. It will kill pain.
But start drinking it a day before surgery. I took it 4 hours after surgery.
4 heaping teaspoons dry tea to 1 cup water...and steep for 20 minutes.

It worked for me after surgery ... but not dental surgery.
But it didn't kick in to relieve all the pain until the 2nd day after surgery.
Had some pain the 1st day ... But I didn't have to take prescription pain killers with their side effects.

I did not get pneumonia after surgery this time either. I did 2 years ago when i did not know to use it.
Had a lot of pain back then too. Now I have a much better approach to the 2: pain and pneumonia.

Smile

I am having dental surgery tomorrow... crown lengthening. My molar cracked.
I'm thinking I better start drinking the tea today.
