I have a concern that Ebola, a filovirus, could expand its range by infecting new reservoir species.

This has happened with West Nile Virus, and is presently happening in North America with the chikungunya virus.  Dengue fever also seems to be expanding its range.   We also see MERS virus infecting camels in very remote locations, including the Canary Islands, where camels are biologically isolated and have no theoretical connection to natural vectors like the Egyptian tomb bat.

We still know relatively little about the natural history of the Filoviridae.
