Seriously, I woke up with a nasty bug in the middle of the night. Have diarrhea, vomiting symptoms. I was feeling fine just yesterday. Now I'm feeling sick. I am completely serious. I am extremely scared. What if this is it and not just the regular flu? What if the govt. hasn't told us anything until now? What if all my preps have been for nothing? I took some elderberry extract and OTC flu medicine. I guess now will be the time to see if elderberry holds up to it's promises. I can always order more. I have not touched any birds at all lately. Only thing I can think of -- I was at the pet store getting supplies for my gecko yesterday, but I didn't even look at any birds, let alone touch any. But still -- if they were in the store, the possibility exists even if it's slim. Haven't eaten anything out of the ordinary lately, so I don't think it's food poisioning, but you never know. I'm from MN, not anywhere near where the bird flu has been reported in the mainstream press. Someone please tell me this is just the run of the mill flu. It would mean my flu shot didn't work, but oh well. I'd much rather have that happen than bird flu. Please. |

Hey. Just hang in there. From some of the articles I've seen posted tonight, the WHO seems genuinely convinced that spread is only in clusters right now. We may not get much warning, but I think we'll hear *something* before we start getting sick, especially with all the folks we have around here that monitor the news around the world. Spoon and I were talking tonight about all the reports of people getting sick across the world: they have probably been getting sick right along from these other things, but our awareness has never been so high. That's what's happening with you right now. Awareness is *way* up. Hang in there: we are going to get sick from other things than AF also and it'll be scary, but we aren't at the point where we need to worry *just* yet. Hope you feel better soon - I'm sure you will. Take Care.

You are probably right. I've been going to grocery stores a lot lately to prep, so I probably picked it up from a cart. No more touching the carts or baskets without first wiping them off for me. I have learned my lesson in that regard. One of the OTC meds I took was Tylenol PM to bring down my fever and maybe help me get to sleep, but I'm still wide awake. A little less freaked out, though. The OTC meds are definitely kicking in. I no longer feel like I am about to throw up and my nose has stopped running. If this was the bird flu, I doubt the OTC meds would be very effective in the early stages. I shall be washing my hands like crazy tomorrow. I've got some alcohol-based liquid soap as part of my prepping. Also, it's probably a good thing I had flu meds on hand. I will try to conserve them, but I can always buy more. Hmmm. One other thing I thought of, I picked up my gecko yesterday to clean the cage out. Are any of those salmonella symptoms? IIRC, vomiting and fever are. How do you know the difference between that and the flu? I've had the gecko for over a year with no problems and it hasn't shown any signs of illness, so I don't think I've gotten anything from the gecko. And it's had no contact with other animals besides feeder insects (they eat worms). But you never know. |

I called my stepmom this morning and she has it. She said my toddler cousin had some sort of flu bug, and we were all at an 80th birthday party for my grandma on Saturday. So that's probably where I got it from. |

I had it about a week ago. Came home from work and went to the bar, had a few drinks, went home and went to sleep. Woke up at 7 with the worst headache, clogged sinuses, fever of 101, wheezing when I breathed, tummy was upset in more ways than one. Thought I was hungover at first, but my fever stayed at 102-103 for about 3 days, and then dropped back down to 100 for another 3 days. I couldn't eat anything for 3 days at all, and didn't want to eat anything for another 2. I was soooo hot, the only thing I could do was take cold medicine, hack and cough and blow my nose and take warm baths. It was awful. :( my flu shot didn't work at all. I kind of felt like it was a combination of the flu and a cold, since I never get sick. This was the first year I've gotten the flu shot, ever, and the first time I've ever gotten sick like that. |

I am feeling somewhat better after staying in bed all morning long. At least I can eat lunch and keep the soup down. Whatever that virus is, it was short-lived but very nasty. Maybe the elderberry helped some. I don't know. |

Hey Amethyst, glad you are feeling better. I had the same symptons that seem to come on quickly yesterday chills and all. I quickly ate some raw garlic and onions took 6000 grams of vitamin c and went to bed. Feeling no symptons at all today. I keep telling myself i should take the onions and garlic for 2 more days but can't seem to bring myself to do it. It's powerful stuff. But I did take 4ooo grams of vitamin c and will take another 1000 before bed. Hang in there you will be fine.

I'm feeling about a hundred times better this morning, although my nose is still stuffed up. At least I can keep food down. All I had yesterday to eat was oatmeal and soy milk.
