Addenbrooke's issues urgent warning after viral outbreak
People are being warned not to come to the hospital unless it is necessary ByFiona Leishman 10:01, 20 JAN 2020 We will use your email address only for sending you newsletters. Please see ourPrivacy Noticefor details of your data protection rights The Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) is asking people not to visit family and friends at the hospital unless it is absolutely necessary due to a flu outbreak. The trust, which runs Addenbrooke's and the Rosie, has confirmed that around a third of their hospital's wards now contain patients with flu or other respiratory viruses. They are warning parents and carers of children under 12 to not bring the children to the hospital to visit friends and family. Those who do come to the hospital will only be allowed onto wards at the discretion of the ward manager. Anyone who is unwell and requires medical advice is asked to call NHS 111, and only to attend the hospital if advised or it is an emergency. Strict infection control processes are in place to try and stop the spread of this highly contagious virus and to keep patients safe. Dr Ashely Shaw, medical director at CUH, said: "We are seeing a huge rise in the number of patients who have flu or other respiratory viruses. "While we have strict infection control processes in place we need the public to help us too. "Please think twice before visiting the hospital and only come if it is absolutely necessary."
