As reported in the BBC (general news plus some specific UK news)
"Doing at least two and a half hours of vigorous exercise each week cuts the chance of developing flu, new data suggests..... Moderate exercise did not appear to have a protective effect, the researchers said. Overall, flu rates have been relatively low this winter. ...... The researchers say their findings suggest 100 cases of flu per 1,000 people could be prevented just by engaging in vigorous exercise. " That is a 10% lower chance of getting flu. for more details: http://www.bbc.com/news/health-26581722 |

I Don't buy it.
I am 52. I eat a fantastic diet, exercise regularly. I don't smoke or drink. My doctor at my last physical said that I have a body of a man in his 30's. I got the flu shot. I still got the flu. I have been sick 2 times in 30 days. This flu strain affects healthy people. I am living proof. Diet, exercise and the flu shot are no guarantee that you will remain flu free. They might help in recovering faster, but don't prevent it. |

The article implied that the risk of getting flu was reduced by just 10%. So alpha I guess that you were in the 90 for which it would not work.....

100% accurate in my book.
I exercise a serious amount 200- 300km per week on a bike. I never get the flu! Previous to this i would get the flu twice a year and be knocked out for two weeks. I was pretty much guaranteed of getting it. To be completely accurate. I actually still get mild flu symptoms, but for some reason I blow it away with exercise.
