Ok, so the flu shot is a clear miss this year. Do any of you bright kids out there know if Tamiflu will help if you get the flu this year?

I get pneumonia easily and am in total fear of getting the flu! I was out from work for almost 2 months two years ago! In hospital 3 days! Do not want to do that again! So if Tamiflu works I will be at my Doc's office ASAP!

I've never had any faith in Tamiflu to be honest, FluMom. It was always more hype than substance. Even against seasonal flu, research shows it only shortens a regular 7-10 day infection by maybe a day. And now we're seeing widespread immunity to Tamiflu starting to show up.

Remember that the mutation of the virus in eggs caused the loss of vaccine efficacy, and my research strongly indicates this will not apply to non-egg based vaccines like flucelvax or flubloc.  These might, might be more effective with H3 flu.
Also we have whooping cough outbreaks including North Carolina.  A good opportunity for everyone who has not had Adacell which includes a booster for this, to get this when you get the flu vaccine.  Same with pneumovax if not already done.
I consider elderberry extracts like sambucol to be at least as effective as weak old tamiflu btw.

John and Jacksdad have it about right.  I would use Tamiflu in a nasty case, as any help is appreciated when things get really tough.  10% effective may be enough to save your life, if it hangs in the ballance.  That goes for the herbal stuff too.

Avoiding getting it in the first place is the best bet: followed by being ft ,well nourished (vits C&D and zinc), vaccinated and taking things easy when ill (most cold/flu "treatments" only suppress symptoms, so it is well worth remembering you are sicker than you feel).

Absence of proof is not proof of absence.

I have some Sambucol but it is old at least 10 yrs old but I keep it just in case. I also have some old Tamiflu. But my doc would give it to me if I was sick. I will take everything because I get really sick. I have Zink at home and at school and I take it even if I have a nose tickle!

Unless you guys get old and get really ill fast and really bad fast you will see why I worry! LOL it is a bitch getting old but better than the alternative! LOL!

I think you can get vaccinated against pneumonia. I know my dad had double pneumonia and when he recovered he was advised to have the vaccine, which he did, and he hasn't had pneumonia again in 20 years. I've cut and pasted this for you:

PPSV23 for Children and Adults. The pneumococcalpolysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23 or Pneumovax®) protects against 23 types of pneumococcal bacteria. CDC recommends it for all adults 65 years or older and for those 2 years or older at increased risk for disease.

If it is to be, it is up to me.

The diagnosis of the nut was put illegally under pressure from Moscow. For inadequate letters, now can prove their adequacy 2 immunograms blood test.
So I hurry because I'm sick and I have to live for several years. The name of this disease I'll tell in person. I will say that she is a rare internal incurable disease
I'm sick with the flu but in a very light form. I want to use my blood to create drugs against the flu

If you have super immunity to the flu, why are you sick?

I have had the pneumonia jab.  Hubby has had it and twice he has had a booster.  It makes your arm sore; that sure beats pneumonia!

Rishat, we're not doctors - you're wasting precious time here. Seek professional help while you can. We cannot help you no matter how many times you ask.

We are not publishers, Rishat.  We have seen your repeated "article"/claims and do not believe you have anything extordinary (or even slightly valuable) to offer.  We do not want to lower the intellectual tone of this site - and we believe your clearly inaccurate claims would do so.

On the other hand:  any genuine news you post is gratefully received.

In short: you are always welcome on the site but your repeated бред сивой кобылы is not.

Why should we/I?  We are not unsure; we are certain.  Bearing that in mind, why would we spend our hard-earned money to go all the way to Russia?

This is pointless, Rishat.  We will still remove your posts.  I can see we will not stop you from wasting your time (and ours) on this.  But, you should also see that we will continue to weed your rubbish out of the site too.

Nobody is going to Russia to see you. You need to understand that your request is falling on deaf ears. You're wasting time you should be spending seeking medical help. You're asking the wrong people because we cannot help. We will continue to delete your posts.

America has faced one of the worst influenza seasons, when doctors warn that the vaccine is effective only this year by 10%

December 6, 2017
By Mia De Graaf Health Editor For Dailymail.com

America is ready to withstand one of the most dangerous periods of the flu for many years - with doctors warning that this may be similar to the deadly outbreak of 2014.

It is becoming increasingly clear that the US will suffer from a certain strain of influenza called H3N2, the same strain that has just caused chaos in Australia, and has been responsible for the four most deadly influenza season in the last 10 years.

Early estimates suggest that the current vaccine, which was produced in the spring, after scientists made an informed guess about what to expect, will be 10 percent more effective.

While some seasons do not begin until February, we are already seeing a surge in people hospitalized with flu symptoms - at a speed even faster and earlier than we saw in 2014.

"I expect this to be a bad year for the flu," said Daily Mail Online, a specialist in infectious diseases, Dr. Pritish Tosh from the Mayo Clinic.

+2

Data from the interactive CDC influenza tracking website (pictured) show cases in which people who are ill with influenza-like illness (ILI) are more common than in previous years

"Reports from other developed countries show the sub-optimal effectiveness of the vaccine, and we are still waiting to see which strain will prevail in the United States. But I expect it to be H3N2.

The four most deadly influenza season in the last 10 years - winter 2003-2004, 2007-2008, 2012-2013 and 2014-15. - were H3N2 seasons, each of which had a specific version of this type of influenza.

Although H3N2 is not as virulent as some other strains of influenza, it very easily mutates, making it stronger against the body's immune system.

In 2014, 147 children died from the flu, most of them from a certain strain of H3N2. By the end of the year, the CDC announced an epidemic with more than 20 deaths a few weeks before Christmas this year. As health officials rushed to curb the outbreak, the CDC admitted that the 2014 flu vaccine did not protect against H3N2 - it had only a 7% chance of protection
