Thanks. Chicken is their primary source of protein and income in many cases. |

yes, and they are trying to beat the government ban deadline so they are rushing the birds to market. From what i have read the virus has been there a month. they thought it was chicken colera or something. Nigeria has already exported alot of birds to other destinations in Africa. They are screwed.

Totally screwed. And on so many different levels. Here in North America we at least have the opportunity to prep. Despite what we are not being told, we can take it upon ourselves and prepare for essentials. And the reason I think that people here in this country are not taking the BF threat seriously is for most, they think it pretty much is a given that one will always have a roof over their head, food everyday, warmth, clothes, etc. etc. no matter what happens. I read these threads about the poorer countries with the infection and they never had a chance. It'll be bad enough for us and we will have our own stuff to deal with. I can't even imagine what it's going to be like for them. America, wake the "F" up!

Stardust-yes-it is simply a sad commentary on our times that the poor countries ravaged by disease, famine and warlords are not helped on a larger scale by the USA and the world. Bosnia, Darfur, holocaust, aids, bird flu-all the same-in Africa and other areas of the world.
Iraq has oil. A side note: I admire The Bill and Melinda Gates Foudation for working hard in these countries and maximising their resources$$$. |

I think it's because they can't even face the thought they are being threatened. It's too much so we'll hide our heads in the sand

O.k. I'm calmer now. I just felt so sad reading some of the threads this morning. And we are pretty much powerless to do anything of great magnitude. I also admire the people that are able and willing to use their resources and go over to these countries to help. It's times like these when I find gratitude for the fact that I have what I need. |

Concur. Many probably feel the essential items for life include cable T.V., central heating and air conditioning, a drug for every problem, etc. We will all be humbled by this experience. There will no longer be luxury items and the majority, even in the U.S., will not have access to a flooded health care system. When our luxury items are gone, we will be forced to live like many have lived for decades. Additionally, the U.S. Government will not be able to bail out millions. Individuals will have to take responsibility for their and their families needs without relying on others. The under-priviledged countries have done this for years. Edited by walkdog |
