H1N1 Flu Eyed In Arkansas Man's Death

Epidemiologist Says Case Would Be Unusual For Flu

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Pulaski County's coroner said investigators are probing whether a 28-year-old offshore oil worker's death may have been caused by the H1N1 flu.

Coroner Garland Camper told The Associated Press that the man died Saturday morning at a Little Rock hospital after suffering from flulike symptoms for six weeks.

Camper said samples taken from the man tested positive for several strains of flu, requiring his office to explore the possibility H1N1 flu played a part in the death.Dr. James Phillips, the state's epidemiologist, said the man's case would be incredibly unusual for the H1N1 flu.

However, Phillips said the samples will be sent along to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta for testing.Camper declined to identify the man. The man's body will undergo an autopsy on Monday.Arkansas has had six confirmed cases of H1N1 flu since the outbreak began.

This sound scary because you don't know if its one after the other or a super flu forming. I hope they tell what it is when they find out.

Some people with swine flu will show no symptoms, just carry it.  ...Some will have only intestinal shedding, some nausea.  It can be that mild.  Others more severe.   There is no way to stop it.  This is why we don't toss people in a hotel for 7 days.  They only way not to get it is to stay at home all day every day.  That isn't realistic.  I hope all this gives us a clue as to SIP.  It isn't that easy to do.  We will want to do it if it changes and comes back in the fall... a more virulent flu.

Endman, I'm with you on this. I WANT TO KNOW what kind of flu killed this 28 year old if not the swine flu? Is there other killer strains out there we need to know about? Obviously yes since he died. If he had several strains...what strains are these? R they knew? Where can we get the answer to this? Or will we be told because of "privacy issues" they can't say?
If our lives our at stake they better tell us what we are up agains if they know. I want to know what they know.
