Travel Warning for Qinghai Pneumonic Plague Outbreak
The disease has little possibility to spread because the authorities have closed off the infected area. Therefore, the tourists planning to travel to Qinghai Province or having tour presently cannot be worried about it as long as you do not travel the town of Ziketan in Xinghai County. Qinghai, a relatively remote province where proximity to animals such as rats and fleas is common, has reported two minor pneumonic plague outbreaks in the past eight years.

"President Viktor Yushchenko said experts fear the simultaneous existence of three types of flu viruses within the country "may lead to the emergence of an even more aggressive new virus".
"Slovakia has closed two of its five border crossings with Ukraine, against WHO advice, in an attempt to stop the virus from spreading."

That guy is a nutcase with a long history of terrorist threats. Watch one of the real live videos where even his neighbors said he acts up when off his meds. This video shows how the Federal building was on Lockdown All day and people in the building were trapped in there all day after he made the terrorist threats against the White house. Note how even with the police chasing him he was finally stopped 100 yards from the federal building. Also watch the other 5-10 news stations video's in the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giavJC7Q-TM&feature=related |

The 'Panic' is more Economic... and the leaders are Gaming Around.
If there was some dire situation over there... we would be hearing of a lot of deaths...we are not. What's real... is actually more interesting than... pretending Govt's want to do in their people :/ ... They don't want to do us in....they want to "manage" us. Naturally.
All kinds of interesting info... the science is interesting.

969,247 Infections, 155 deaths = .01599%
The low fatality ratio is holding steady. It's weird that the Ukraine even counts infections so quickly? You would think they are not as modernized at electronic record keeping across the entire county. |

Hi everyone,
this is my first post here and I have been interested in the emergence of all things viral for 6 or so years now whether natural or manmade.
My question to everyone outwith Ukraine is - how is your Media outlets reporting this situation in Ukraine.?
Over here in Britain, there is quite simply - nothing! I only knew about this from one of the links "Other most searched news stories" on MSN's Home Page which was situated near the bottom of the screen. That was Saturday.
Nothing on BBC News, Sky News, ITV News (not sure about the far superior Channel 4 News). Nothing at all.

WHO staff review pandemic prevention steps in Ukraine
The WHO team of experts has continued its work in Ukraine over the weekend. While four members continued investigations in Lviv – one of the most affected regions in the country – two others travelled 100 km west of the capital, Kyiv, to Zhytomyr: a medium-sized city and a regional (oblast) capital. The health authorities there have invested resources in preparing for the pandemic in line with the central Government’s guidelines. The two team members went to the area, along with WHO’s representative in Ukraine, to see how a typical region prioritizes action to prevent an outbreak of pandemic (H1N1) 2009 influenza. A total of 1.3 million people live in the wider Zhytomyr oblast, explained the head of the oblast health administration to the WHO team. As of 7 November 2009, nearly 20 000 people had reported acute respiratory illness (ARI) in the previous 8 days. The region confirmed an ARI epidemic 2 days ago, with the numbers breaching a defined threshold (set using the weekly ARI incidence for the past 10 years). There are 747 hospital beds earmarked for infectious patients (406 are designated for children) and a contingency plan is in place to allocate an extra 1415 beds at extremely short notice. The emergency response plan also includes the transformation of one hospital into a dedicated treatment and care unit for pandemic (H1N1) 2009 influenza. Hospital beds are just one part of the arsenal. Health administrators have stockpiled medication for every hospital in the oblast, equipping each with enough medication to treat patients for at least 10 days and giving them access to extra medication if stocks run out. The hospital stores also include protective equipment, such as surgical masks for staff and patients, and much other equipment that can help combat a major outbreak. Implementation of the emergency plan is still on hold, but hospital and health officials are confident that they have done all that they could in the planning stage, which began in April 2009 with WHO’s announcement of a possible pandemic. Web sites have been set up that provide both general and technical information that the public can easily access, alongside the latest recommendations for all the 30 000 health staff employed in the oblast. Twenty-four-hour hotlines are open for communication with the public, and extra lines and staff are ready to take calls if a major outbreak occurs. After touring three hospitals, the WHO team leader said, “We still cannot accurately predict what kind of impact the H1N1 virus will have, but from the preparations I’ve seen today in this one part of Ukraine, it’s clearly a priority for public health.†|

RSOE EDIS Pandemic Monitoring System [PMS] Event Update Date: 09.11.2009 14:24:58 The number of deaths and infections from flu were still rising in Ukraine on Monday, as government officials argued the outbreak was showing signs of stabilizing. "Today we clearly had certain positive signs of a reduction in the flu infection rate," said Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, at a meeting with World Health Organisation officials. "We are seeing a positive trend." A total of 155 people have died from flu or flu-related symptoms since the outbreak struck the former Soviet republic in late October, with nine victims losing their lives in the last 24 hours, Tymoshenko said, in comments reported by 1+1 television. Lab tests had confirmed the virulent A/H1N1 influenza strain, known also as swine flu, was responsible for 15 of the deaths, according to data made public on Ukraine's Ministry of Health website Monday. Segodnia, Ukraine's largest daily, reported on Monday that the number of swine-flu-related deaths nationwide was actually 24. Tymoshenko said the flu situation was nonetheless showing signs of improvement. She said the number of Ukrainians admitted to hospitals as flu patients fell for the first time on Sunday, to 42,468, compared with 127,254 on Wednesday. Almost 1 million Ukrainians have received treatment for the flu since the October 29 initial outbreak, according to Ministry of Health statistics. Most live in Ukraine's western Lviv, Ivano- Frankivsk and Ternopil provinces, adjacent to Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. Officials in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil provinces echoed Tymoshenko's assertion that the infection rate was stabilizing. A Ternopil city council statement said, "there is a definitive improvement in the epidemic's situation," according to an Interfax news agency report. Almost 50,000 people across Ukraine have been hospitalized for dangerous flu infections, and 445 are in severe or worse condition, according to a report from the Korrespondent website. Shortages of basic medical supplies for first-line response to flu continued to be widely reported in major Ukrainian media on Monday, despite repeated promises by Tymoshenko that state-owned pharmaceutical and fabric factories would soon redress the problem. Date: 09.11.2009 10:14:04 As of November 9, a total of 155 people have died of flu and acute respiratory infections, including 11 people on November 8, the Health Ministry reported. Since the start of the epidemic, 969,247 have had flu and respiratory diseases. A total of 48,972 have been hospitalized, 446 people are currently in intensive care department. A total of 11 people died on November 8 alone, including three fatalities in Chernivtsi region, two in Lviv region, two in Ivano-Frankivsk region, two in Rivne region, one in Vinnytsia and one in Khmelnytsky region. The epidemic threshold for influenza and acute respiratory infections has been exceeded in 13 regions and in Kyiv. Date: 08.11.2009 14:33:37 The death toll from the flu outbreak in Ukraine has risen to 144 cases, the country's Health Ministry reported on Sunday. According to the ministry, 15 regions in the ex-Soviet republic had already crossed the flu epidemic threshold while 11 provinces were close to it. The Ukrainian government imposed quarantine in nine western provinces in late October in an attempt to curb the spread of flu. All education establishments in Kiev were closed, and people were obliged to wear medical masks in all catering establishments, shops and social services facilities across the former Soviet republic. Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko earlier requested help from other countries over the outbreak of flu. The Ukrainian Health Ministry said on Monday 255,000 flu cases had been registered in the country, with some 15,000 people receiving treatment in hospital. The Health Ministry has confirmed the death of 14 people from swine flu and 32 swine flu cases in the country. The Ukrainian parliament has approved the allocation of 1 billion hryvnias ($125 million) on measures to fight swine and seasonal flu. |

Hi Tedrick, welcome to AFT. Hope you won't be a stranger round here. In Australia there is almost zero reporting of what is happening in the Ukraine. In fact swine flu rarely gets a mention in the press here anymore.

Hi Rickster,
thanks for the welcome! Swine Flu hasn't been in our news reports for a while now either. There was a time when every single death was at the top of the pile, but even they are not much of a big deal.

Translated to English from: http://www.moz.gov.ua/ua/main/press/?docID=14028 Health Minister of Ukraine Vasyl Knyazevich during the conference call expressed concern about the high threshold of morbidity among workers of medical field. As on 06.11.2009, in Ukraine sick 687 physicians and more than 1500 young specialists. In quarantine areas the incidence ranges from 0.5% to 1.3% of the total number of doctors and from 0.5% to 1.2% of younger professionals. In addition, 4 physicians and 2 junior personnel died as a result of their professional duties. This situation complicates the already difficult work of physicians who work with the excessive load. In order to support regions with the most complex epidemiological situation, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine formed more than 570 mobile teams, composed of family physicians, pediatricians, infectious disease, anesthesiologists and others. specialists.

Swine Flu Outbreak Sparks Mutation Fears 12:43pm UK, Thursday November 05, 2009 Rob Owers, Sky News health producer British scientists are examining samples of a strain of swine flu behind a deadly Ukrainian outbreak to determine whether the virus has mutated. Dynamo fans wear face masks during Champions League match against Inter Milan in Kiev Fans at the Champions League match between FC Dynamo and Inter Milan in Kiev More than 80 people have died in Ukraine in the last two weeks and there have been 450,000 cases of respiratory illness. The World Health Organisation has sent an emergency team to monitor the epidemic and says it assumes most of the illness in the country has been caused by H1N1 swine flu. The Ukrainian government has closed schools and universities for three weeks, and many public events have been banned. President Viktor Yushchenko said experts fear the simultaneous existence of three types of flu viruses within the country "may lead to the emergence of an even more aggressive new virus". Ukraine's Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko wears a protective mask as she visits a hospital Ukrainian PM Yulia Tymoshenko visiting children in hospital The WHO team of nine experts dispatched samples from infected patients for examination at the World Influenza Centre at Mill Hill, in London. "Many questions remain to be answered," the organisation said in a statement. "The outbreak in Ukraine may be indicative of how the virus can behave in the northern hemisphere during the winter season, particularly in health care settings typically found in Eastern Europe." The epidemic is concentrated in the west of the country, which has borders with four European Union states, but a growing number of cases are being reported in the capital Kiev. The European Union is working closely with health experts in Ukraine, and member states are preparing to provide logistical and medical support if required. Swine Flu Austria, Hungary and Slovenia have already said they will send disinfectants, vaccines and respirators. Slovakia has closed two of its five border crossings with Ukraine, against WHO advice, in an attempt to stop the virus from spreading. Ukrainians have complained of their struggle to access medical supplies, and many pharmacies have sold out of face masks as people try to protect their families from infection. However, with elections in January there is concern that President Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who are fierce rivals, are making political capital out of the outbreak. |

Are we missing something in the translation?
The people are not dieing from H1N1, they are dieing from neumonic plague. Where did this come from is the question we should be asking. Is it hidden in the H1N1 vaccine or is it being spread with the chemical trails over the country. The human population is under attack from somebody or some group. That is what we should be looking for, something just doesnt smell right. |

You know if the vaccine is tainted, it really is hard to say when a reaction could take place. I know if i was after maximum kill rate, it would be best to have a reaction that would take place several months or years later.
It is like the virus that was included in the origional polio vaccine, it was found years later. Then this virus was passed to the children of the origional vaccinated group. The verdict is still out on that virus. |

Found this on Drudge Report... A million infected in Ukraine flu epidemic: minister (AFP) – 2 days ago KIEV — Ukraine's epidemic of flu and acute respiratory disorders has now affected more than a million people, the country's deputy health minister said on Tuesday. Vasyl Lazoryshynets said the death toll from the epidemic had risen to 174, as President Viktor Yushchenko warned the country must brace itself for a second wave of infections. Nearly 53,000 Ukrainians have now been hospitalised, Lazoryshynets said, but the number in intensive care has fallen by nearly a quarter to around 330. A total of 67 cases of swine flu have been reported in Ukraine, he said, 14 of which had been fatal. "Ukraine must prepare properly for a second wave of respiratory infections and flu," including A(H1N1), Yushchenko said Tuesday, according to the Interfax news agency. A World Health Organisation (WHO) team in Ukraine said on Monday the epidemic had slowed, but warned a second wave was likely. On Monday the health ministry's previous bulletin on the epidemic, which began in mid-October, reported 969,000 infections, with 155 deaths and 65 cases of A(H1N1). Copyright © 2009 AFP. Why has WHO not released the gentic sequences from Ukraine. This makes now sense especially if there have been no mutations, which is what they are trying to suggest. By not releasing this information it only fuels the speculation fires.
Who Briefing (November 5th)
_________________________________________________________________________
Right now we know that many clinical specimens and viruses have been sent to one of the WHO collaborating centres for further study. We don't know the results of those studies, and it will probably take a couple of days for the full analysis of those viruses to be available. But in the meantime, what we do not have is any evidence of viruses there or anywhere else as showing any big mutations.

This probably has already been here ? Do You know what the rest 16 where about ? Two other strains ?
Ukraine: London test results from Ukraine samples…half are H1N1 Posted on November 6, 2009 by niarane Update: more death, illness Yesterday at 14:10 | (Wire reports) Ukraine’s Health Ministry on Nov. 5 said the death toll of patients with flu-related and acute respiratory illnesses (ARI) had jumped to 95. Deputy Health Minister Zinoviy Mytnik said told journalists during a press briefing that a total of 633, 877 cases of flu-related and ARI have been registered from Oct. 29 through Nov. 5. Mytnik said 15 of 31 patient samples sent to London for laboratory analysis tested positive for the H1N1, or swine flu, virus. Meanwhile, over 600 medical workers in Kyiv have fallen sick with the flue and acute respiratory illnesses, according to Kyiv deputy Mayor Iryna Kilchitskaya, who on Nov. 5 told a daily Kyiv newspaper that 200 of the afflicted are doctors. In a related story, Ihor Pokanevych, head of the WHO office in Kyiv, told Deutsche Welle on Nov. 5 that in Ukraine, as in the rest of the world, there will be three waves of the swine flu virus: the first – which Ukraine is experiencing now, the second – in the spring, and the third – during the autumn of 2010. Pokanevych noted that the current pandemic is complicated to sort out because it involves three strains of flu virus: two seasonal strains [of the Brisbane] flu and the swine flu, which as a result could lead the virus to mutate into a still more virulent, new virus. http://www.kyivpost.com/news/nation/detail/51972/ |

I have more information I will post this here without a lot of comment.
zik indirect- user-full link removed from page 12:51 p.m. 13.11.09 Besides swine influenza, AN3N2, AN2N2 and group B have been found in the territory of Ukraine. In particular, at present at least 8 different viruses are circulating in the territory of Bukovyna. Such conclusions are made by experts of regional sanitary epidemiological stations following the results of almost 6,000 studies on the identification of acute respiratory viral infections, said the chief state sanitary doctor of the Chernivtsi Region Oleksandr Svitlichny on November 11 at the briefing. (I cannot access the full document) I am posting this on my thread thing as well- but given the strains I thought you would find this useful. - Med |

Anyone know why the WHO is not releasing sequences on a potential new strain? When the virus first appeared in Mexico last spring, the CDC and WHO did not warn anyone and they allowed it to spread. The forums learned about it, as the WHO remained silent until they couldn't keep a lid on it. Quite frankly, the WHO and CDC are pathetic for doing that. I'm afraid that they will probably repeat the act based on their history.
Anyway, I was thinking about releasing a series of world wide press releases condemning the WHO for suppressing sequencing info during this very critical time period. Maybe put a little pressure on them?

Thanks waenderer, we may need to work together on this one. Anyone know how long the sequencing takes? If the WHO is not going to release the information, then I need to issue a PR to bring some attention to it. I'm somewhat responsible for these forums and I'm not going to allow people to be blindsided. We can all collectively pressure the WHO once a "reasonable" amount of time has elapsed in the sequencing process. Has that time arrived?

Albert, I'm just a simple CPU user with no connections or contacts at all but if you want me to send harrassing e-mails out to the organisations who need it - I'll be only too happy to help.
