MAJDAL SHAMS, Golan Heights | Sun May 15, 2011 10:48am EDT

MAJDAL SHAMS, Golan Heights (Reuters) - Violence erupted on Israel's borders with Syria, Lebanon and Gaza on Sunday, leaving at least eight dead and dozens wounded, as Palestinians marked what they term "the catastrophe" of Israel's founding in 1948.

Israeli troops shot at protesters in three separate locations to prevent crowds from crossing Israeli frontier lines in the deadliest such confrontation in years.

Israeli and Syrian media reports said Israeli gunfire killed four people after dozens of Palestinian refugees infiltrated the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from Syria, along a disputed border that has been quiet for decades.

Witnesses on the nearby Lebanese frontier said four Palestinians were killed after Israeli forces fired at rock-throwing protesters to prevent them from crossing the border.

The Lebanese army had also earlier fired in the air in an attempt to hold back the crowds.

On Israel's tense southern border with the Gaza Strip, Israeli gunfire wounded 60 Palestinians as demonstrators approached Israel's fence with the Hamas Islamist-run enclave, medical workers said.

In Tel Aviv, Israel's commercial hub, a truck driven by an Arab Israeli slammed into vehicles and pedestrians, killing one man and injuring 17 people.

Police were trying to determine whether the incident was an accident or an attack. Witnesses said the driver, who was arrested, ran amok with his truck in downtown traffic.

ALERT

Israeli security forces had been on alert for violence on Sunday, the day Palestinians mark the "Nakba," or catastrophe, of Israel's founding in a 1948 war, when hundreds of thousands of their brethren fled or were forced to leave their homes.

In the Druze village of Majdal Shams, on the Golan Heights captured by Israel from Syria in 1967, Mayor Dolan Abu Salah said between 40 and 50 Nakba demonstrators from Syria tore through the frontier fence.

Hundreds of protesters flooded the lush green valley that marks the border area, waving Palestinian flags. Israeli troops attempted to mend the breached fence, firing at what the army described as infiltrators.

"We are seeing here an Iranian provocation, on both the Syrian and the Lebanese frontiers, to try to exploit the Nakba day commemorations," said the army's chief spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Yoav Mordechai.

Syria is home to 470,000 Palestinian refugees and its leadership, now facing fierce internal unrest, had in previous years prevented protesters from reaching the frontier fence.

"This appears to be a cynical and transparent act by the Syrian leadership to deliberately create a crisis on the border so as to distract attention from the very real problems that regime is facing at home," said a senior Israeli government official who declined to be named.

In a Nakba protest in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian youths threw rocks at Israeli soldiers, who fired tear gas and rubber bullets in a clash at the Israeli military checkpoint outside the city of Ramallah -- a constant flashpoint.

A Palestinian teenager was shot dead during protests in Jerusalem on Friday. Police said it was unclear who had shot him and they were investigating.

That shooting took place in the tense neighborhood of Silwan in East Jerusalem, where violence regularly breaks out between Palestinian stone throwers and Israeli police and Jewish settlers.

Palestinians want East Jerusalem as the capital of the state they intend to establish in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Muslim Facebook Groups Call for Mass Invasion of Israel Tomorrow

On Tuesday I posted that “the barrier of fear has been broken," after thousands of marauding Muslims tried to cross Israel's borders in an unprecedented act of war. Muslims from Gaza, invasions from Lebanon and Syria (orchestrated by Iran), and a truck jihad attack in Tel Aviv.

It was the opening salvo. And hot on the heels of this new Islamic onslaught on the Jews, Obama declares today that the Jews should return to the Auschwitz borders. Why?

I wrote this before Obama gave his jihadi message today:

Never again? Well, not so much. What can be behind this lack of fear by Islamic Jew-haters? In a word? Obama. The perception in the Muslim world is that Obama is playing for their team. And that is a whole new paradigm.

And so he is and they are. The horror is upon us.

I am speaking in DC this weekend and hadn't intended to attend AIPAC, but if AIPAC does not disinvite Obama, I will go just to heckle the schmeckle.

Keep your eye on and your prayers for Israel, tomorrow. I stand with Israel. I love her.

I have two words for that gorgeous little nation -- disproportionate force. Do it.

Phyllis Chesler over at NewsReal blog via Ynet: Hat tip Jeffrey R.

The Third Palestinian Intifada on Facebook seems to have at least twenty different groups or pages, each with hundreds or thousands of fans. One group has 365,000 fans. According to Yedioth Ahronoth (YNet), these sites are now urging all Arabs to “rush the Israeli borders” after Friday prayers on May 20.

Look: This could be the work of one nerdy Palestinian in a basement in Ramallah. The fans could also be people who exist only in cyberspace.

But, these Third Palestinian Intifada websites could also be the work of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Hizbullah, Syria, and the Palestinian Authority, all of which have problems of their own and for whom a diversion would be mighty fine. In fact, I think they are. Thus, this promised new aggression must be taken seriously and stopped in its tracks.

In any event, these Third Intifada facebook websites are suggesting that armed and unarmed hordes, masses, mobs of incited and hate-filled Arabs invade–“surge”–into sovereign Israel (as they have done for years to India.) The Indian press and police are too afraid to report it or to stop them. Israelis have no choice but to do so.

If and when they re-create their failed Nakba Day aggression, public opinion, the Arab “street,” the Arab League, the world’s intellectuals, journalists and progressives, the human rights organizations and the jihadist friendly United Nations, will probably view such an invasion as an act of “righteous resistance” and Israeli self-defense as an act of “unprovoked aggression.”

Facebook, to its credit, has removed one Third Palestinian Intifada site in the past. Clearly, others quickly sprang up, and Facebook has its work cut out for it. Just as the Civil Rights movement in America was initially and brilliantly non-violent, perhaps all the earth’s peace-loving people might now congregate peacefully on all of Israel’s borders to be the human wall that finally says no to jihadic barbarism.

For all those pacifists who genuinely believe in the non-violent teachings of both Gandhi and Martin Luther King, let them congregate and bear witness with their bodies at all of Israel’s borders that human courage and goodness is ready to stand against barbarism and evil.

For all those who believe that barbarism must be met with Navy SEALs, let them, too, gather at Israel’s borders to defend innocent Israeli civilians.

For all those who believe that a nation has the right to defend its people, let them now volunteer to join the IDF or raise money for it.

On the other hand, all those who invade sovereign Israel with malevolent and lethal and genocidal intentions should know in advance that they will be met with force. Israel should immediately begin announcing this, both day and night.

Of course, jihad is always seeking martyrs. This time, the Western media should not fall for the tricks of “Pallywood” (the al-Dura hoax, the “massacre” in Jenin, the “starving” masses in Gaza, etc.). The Western media should report the truth.

Israeli Parliament: Obama is the new Arafat

The "Made in the USA" President proved today, yet again, how carefully he listened and committed to the  Islamic Jew-hatred taught to him in his quranic classes while growing up Muslim in Indonesia, the largest Muslim country in the world. His call to return to the '67 borders, a return to Auschwitz borders, is a call to jihad. It will incite and inflame the Muslim street.

Obama's foreign policy mimics that of the suicide bomber.

The idea that Israel must take the gas pipe, be reduced to tiny size by this tiny man, while the Muslims have given nothing, negotiated nothing, but instead, waged war and consolidated power between Fatah and Hamas (whose charter calls for the annihilation of Israel), is Obama's final solution.

I pray Netanyahu tells him to kish meir en tuchas.

An apt analogy. "Right wing MKs: Obama is the new Arafat," by Gil Hoffman and Rebecca Anna Stoil for the Jerusalem Post, May 19:

Knesset members on the Right expressed outrage on Thursday night at US President Barack Obama's call for the creation of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps in an exchange of territory for security.

They called upon Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to reject Obama's plan when he meets with him on Friday in Washington.

"Barack Hussein Obama adopted the staged plan for Israel's destruction of Yasser Arafat, and he is trying to force it on our prime minister," said Likud MK Danny Danon. "All that was new in the speech was that he called for Israel to return to 1967 borders without solving the crisis. Netanyahu has only one option: To tell Obama forget about it."

Indeed.

National Union MK Michael Ben-Ari also slammed Obama's speech, calling it "a landmine with pretty wrapping."

Indeed.

Environment Minister Gilad Erdan, who as a minister close to Netanyahu must be more diplomatic, complained on Channel 2 that according to Obama's approach, the Palestinians would receive their demands on borders before negotiations begin.

"Once they have everything from the start, they have no reason to make any concessions,"Erdan said.

Indeed.

But opposition leader Tzipi Livni said Obama's plan was clearly in Israel's interests, while the diplomatic stalemate that she believes was brought on by Netanyahu is not.

"On his visit, Netanyahu must display the leadership necessary now to create the conditions necessary to restart negotiations with those who are ready to end the conflict," Livni said. "Only a real Israeli initiative with content that can receive American and international support can be an answer to the current dangers and opportunities."

Her Kadima colleague, MK Yoel Hasson, warned that if Netanyahu did not take immediate action, he would bring Israel into deeper international isolation and borders forced on Israel unilaterally....

Netanyahu's Office Rocked by President Obama’s Betrayal: Tweets Dismay

Israel is reeling at Obama's destructive and insane proposal earlier today. What should Israel do? Dance on its own proposed grave? I called Obama's speech, "A Moment of Opportunity," what it really was: "A Moment of Ruination, Weakness and Betrayal:

America, what have you wrought?

Netanyahu's Office Tweets Disapproving Response to President Obama’s Speech Jake Tapper, ABC

Isaeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's Office twitter account -- run by Dr. Eitan Eliram, new media director of the prime minister’s office –- sent out a rapid succession of tweets stating clear disapproval with the president’s reference to the 1967 borders:

“Israel appreciates President Obama’s commitment to peace. Israel believes that for peace to endure between Israelis and Palestinians, the viability of a Palestinian state... cannot come at the expense of the viability of the one and only Jewish state,” the tweets state. “That is why Prime Minister Netanyahu expects to hear a reaffirmation from President Obama of U.S. commitments made to Israel in 2004, which were overwhelmingly supported by both Houses of Congress. Among other things, those commitments relate to Israel not having to withdraw to the 1967 lines which are both indefensible and which would leave major Israeli population centers in Judea and Samaria beyond those lines. Those commitments also ensure Israel’s well-being as a Jewish state by making clear that Palestinian refugees will settle in a future Palestinian state rather than in Israel. Without a solution to the Palestinian refugee problem outside the borders of Israel, no territorial concession will bring peace. Equally, the Palestinians, and not just the United States, must recognize Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people, and any peace agreement with them must end all claims against Israel. Prime Minister Netanyahu will make clear that the defense of Israel requires an Israeli military presence along the Jordan River.”

(Aggregation of tweets has been done by me)

The April 2004 letter to which Netanyahu refers, was written by then-President George W. Bush to then-Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and states “In light of new realities on the ground, including already existing major Israeli populations centers, it is unrealistic to expect that the outcome of final status negotiations will be a full and complete return to the armistice lines of 1949, and all previous efforts to negotiate a two-state solution have reached the same conclusion. It is realistic to expect that any final status agreement will only be achieved on the basis of mutually agreed changes that reflect these realities.”

On Hamas' Al-Aqsa TV, Syrian Islamic Scholar: 'Homosexuality Carries the Death Penalty'

On Hamas' Al-Aqsa TV: Muhammad Rateb Al-Nabulsi, Syrian Islamic Scholar Active in the U.S., Says Homosexuality is Filthy, 'Leads To the Destruction of the Homosexual; That Is Why, Brothers, Homosexuality Carries the Death Penalty'

In remarks that aired on Hamas' Al-Aqsa TV on April 28, 2011, prominent Syrian scholar Muhammad Rateb Al-Nabulsi discussed the acceptance of homosexuality in the West, and stated, "Homosexuality involves a filthy place, and does not generate offspring. Homosexuality leads to the destruction of the homosexual. That is why, brothers, homosexuality carries the death penalty."

According to his biography on his website,[1] Al-Nabulsi was an orator in the mosque of his grandfather, Sheikh Abdulghani An-Nabulsi; he received "a Ph.D. in education from Dublin University, Britain [sic]." He was a lecturer in the faculty of education at Damascus University, attended the Islamic Jurisprudence Conference in Detroit in 1999 as well as the two Muslim Youth Conferences in Los Angeles in 1998 and 1999, and spoke in the U.S. and Australia, delivering "a number of religious speeches in the U.S. (Franklin Durban, Flint, Indiana, Miami, Washington, New Jersey, Stanton, Saint Clara, and Los Angeles) in the years 1998-1999... and in Australia (in Sidney in 2001, and in Sidney and Millburn in 2004 [sic]."

His bio continues: "In May 2005, the [Syrian] Minister of Awqaf issued an order whereby he appointed him as one of the orators of the great Umayyad Mosque [in Damascus] and as a religious lecturer there." He also "delivers a number of lessons, orations, symposiums, and interviews" on radio, including "radio of Ana (Washington) and radio of Detroit (for Arab communities)."

Also, according to the bio, Al-Nabulsi "has written a number of articles and interviews... for the Al-Mouslimoun newspaper, issued in London, Al-I'tidal newspaper issued by the Syrian Community in America, and Ad-Diyar newspaper, issued by the Arab Community in Sydney, Australia."[2]

Here are excerpts from his statements on Al-Aqsa TV.

Muhammad Rateb Al-Nabulsi: "Homosexuality involves a filthy place, and does not generate offspring. Homosexuality leads to the destruction of the homosexual. That is why, brothers, homosexuality carries the death penalty. There are thousands of notions around the world, according to which a homosexual is a normal person, with homosexual genes.

"Therefore, the British health secretary says: 'I'm a homosexual.' He said it just like that, in a press conference. An Italian minister also said: 'I'm a homosexual.' When the U.S. ambassador to Bucharest received his nomination from the U.S. State Department, he came to the ceremony with a homosexual partner, rather than a wife.

"In America, they give the privileges of a wife to a [homo]sexual partner. In Canada, if you have a Canadian sexual partner, you are eligible for Canadian citizenship. It's frightening…

"We are extremely lucky in our countries. When the head of the [Islamic] community in Australia came to bid me farewell at the airport, he began to cry, and said: 'Tell our brothers in Syria that the garbage heaps of Syria are better than the gardens of Australia.' When I asked him why, he said: 'There is a 150% chance that you will see your son with an earring in his right ear.' This means that he is a homosexual. If he wears an earring in his left ear, it means something else, because there is an active homosexual and there is a passive homosexual. Earrings in both ears is the worst: 150% chance of homosexuality." [...]
