Kimn - I agree that this would have been better suited to the General Discussion area, but you have to understand that when little is going on with respect to potential pandemics, we do see the news section getting a little more OT. It would get awful quiet around here if we didn't post other stuff.

Good for you, JD!  Closest I came was Assistant Cubmaster.  I agree about the close to home part.  

Keep in mind that the current US President is always the top leader for the BSA.  That would be BHO.

We have laws actually making us a police state.

The following laws were introduced to control bikie gangs (Hells Angels etc). Basically any association is illegal under the law!!! Any group of three or more people is in breach. 

People here are ignorant to the power of this law. We found evidence of police using it to strong arm protest groups.

Yes. These laws are identical to the rules inside prisons. It's one reason why its easier for me to discuss about that past is because it now often feels like I never got out. It's like we're all prisoners now. Imagine that. We can all rub shoulders with the likes of CM and gangs of every stripe. The fences, walls and towers and cameras are seeming more and more retarded when the polizi state is taking over the free part of our country. Next we'll be ticketed for farting in our beds...

Actually, a lot of the changes in attitude within the BSA are coming from the boys themselves. We teach them to do the right thing and stand up and be counted, and now they're often the ones pushing for change. There are many Boy Scouts who have come out - including quite a few who have distinguished themselves by achieving Eagle rank - that are quite rightly protesting the fact that once they age out, they have to walk away from the organization that once valued them so much because the BSA doesn't want them as adults.

That reminds me of my K-8 school. If you were with more than two other people at a time, starting in 6th grade, you got in trouble. Their reasoning, if there are more than three people, you are conspiring against the school and can get first detentions, then in school suspensions, and then at home suspension. Not sure if they ever expelled groups. It was really obnoxious back then. Not sure if the school is still like that, it's been 10 years since I graduated there in 2004.
