Over on our sister site, ebolainfo, Germ Nerd has acquired a simulator and wants help in using it. I can't help, I realy am a Technophobe.
This is what she says: "I downloaded a simulator but I'm too stupid to find an executable file or installer. Is anyone tech-inclined and able to help? To take a look: http://sourceforge.net/projects/globalepidemics/files/ Already scanned, extracted, and scanned again. Avast says it's OK." Is there anyone out there who can help her? Please! Thanks! Ps. It may be quite clever help needed. Despite her protestations to the contrary, she is fiercly bright. |

After download and extraction, its a folder called "Docs". In that folder its a PDF file called "manual.pdf".
If you open that file and start reading : "2. Software Pre-requesities Required: · For a global run, a MPI-capable cluster of machines. The exact memory requirement varies depending on the job. This release comes with configurations we have run on 3 nodes (max usage 300Gb RAM per node), and 9 nodes (max usage 128Gb per node). Contact us to discuss different configurations. · A 64-bit platform is required for job execution and data preparation; it can be Windows or Linux based. · Storage space for population dataset: 140Gb, with a further 140Gb per customisation. · For job building and customisation, a Java Runtime Environment 7.0 or later is required. · For job launching, the default launch scripts are for Microsoft HPC 2008 for Windows, and PBS for linux. These are easily modified. A model can be developed on Windows, but launched on a linux cluster, and vice versa. · A download of either the Landscan dataset, which has license restrictions, or the freely available GRUMP dataset. Other data files will be downloaded during setup." Then you will find some instructions, and will be needed to run few scripts in a particular order : 3. Preparing the Platform 4. Using the Job Creator 5. The parameters ETC I didn't manage to launch the program (its huge and require 150GB +another 150 GB of HDD space) and I don't have that much space on my HDD. So beside a huge space on your HDD (Hard Disk Drive) you will need a x64 (windows 64 bits) or Linux PC. |
