Canadian Avian Influenza Outbreak Expands

The bird flu outbreak in Canada now includes 10 farms and nearly a quarter million birds. Meatingplace is reporting the latest farm, confirmed December 13th in Langley, British Columbia contained 53,000 table egg layers. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has established control zones to restrict the movements of poultry. They describe the bird flu as H5N2 highly pathogenic avian influenza. Singapore has become the ninth country to ban the import of poultry or poultry products from British Columbia, a list that also includes the U.S. and Mexico.
