From Dutchsinse on Facebook:
In 1960 Chili had a M9.5, in 1964 Alaska a 9.3. In the 21 century M9.0 at Sumatra/Indonesia and Japan. The "cascadia-quake" was in 1700, based on findings and history of a tsunami in Japan. In 1956 Sachalin/Kamchatka had a M8.9/M9.0. A Japanese geologist based on study of the faultlines thinks a M10+ event might be possible near Japan. I live in western Europe. Maybe once in a billion years we might see a M9+ quake, but that could come as a surprise any day. Science does not know enough, live always has risks. Deal with that and stay happy !

According to JMA (Japan Meteorological Agency), another M5.0 happened offshore Fukushima at 18:17 of 7/21/2015 (JST). It was felt in the entire East coast of Eastern Japan. The maximum seismic intensity was 3. Tepco has made no announcement on plant status. No aftershock has been observed so far.

The last 24 hrs Japan had two deep M4+ quakes (aprox 400km) and two more shallow M5+ quakes. These might be for-shocks, building up pressure.
If you see multiple upper 3 and 4M earthquakes across EASTERN California.. Nevada.. Utah.. Arizona.. and if you see movement in the 5.0 to 6.0 range in the Pacific Northwest.. those are signs of a coming LARGER event, or movement in South California. (Dutchsinse) |

NEW DELHI: Ants know when an earthquake is about to strike, researchers have discovered. Their behavior changes significantly prior to the quake and they resume normal functioning only a day after it. Gabriele Berberich of the University Duisburg-Essen in Germany presented these findings on Thursday at the European Geosciences Union annual meeting in Vienna according to LiveScience. Berberich and her colleagues discovered that red wood ants preferred to build their colonies right along active faults in Germany. They counted 15,000 ant mounds lining the faults. These faults are fractures where the Earth violently ruptures in earthquakes. A rise in static electricity below the ground could be a reliable indicator that an earthquake is imminent, say scientists who are now launching an experiment to predict quakes well in time to save thousands of lives. Tom Bleier, a satellite engineer with QuakeFinder, has spent millions of dollars putting specialist measuring equipment - magnetometers - along fault lines in California, Peru, Taiwan, and Greece, the 'Daily Mail' reported. The instruments are sensitive enough to detect magnetic pulses from electrical discharges up to 16 kilometres away, which could give people enough time to get to safety before a quake strikes. Scientists' theory is that, when an earthquake looms, activity below ground goes through a 'strange change', producing intense electrical currents. |

Dutch Josh, before our 7.1 earthquake in Sept 2010, a few people noticed strange animal behaviour. The quake struck at 4.35am and most people were asleep in their beds, but a few dairy farmers were up and outside and they noticed that even in the pitch dark, all the birds started singing. Apparently it was deafening. They kept it up for about 10 minutes and then stopped just before the quake struck.
The other thing that many people saw was "lightning" coming up from the ground in the minute or two before the quake. Scientists have since said that it was static electricity releasing.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.
