while the media is obsessed with reporting the non-ending soap opera this story was backed up again today on ABC news. This should not be taken lightly. There is very little significant that is being reported in the mainstream media about issues that are global.
This type of drill cost a lot of money and it is unlikely it would be done for propaganda. It is very hard to imagine the current administration authorizing a first strike, but it is credible that Russia may be getting ready to make a move which will provoke a nuclear response. American ships are fired on off the coast of Yemen and negotiations in Syria have broken down. While Ceaser fiddling while Rome burned is basically a myth, we have a campaign unlike any other in history where the vital issues our next president and current one must deal with are being ignored. The military is not in good shape. In some ways there are the lowest levels since World War II. I would like to ask you - at AFT - why is Russia doing this? http://abcnews.go.com/International/ways-russia-telling-people-prepare-war/story?id=42800992 Medclinician |

Johnray1, does any one know anything about the 101st Airmobile Division possibly being in Iraq qnd possibly leading the attack on Mosul. If the 101st is there, then the government and news media are lieing to us again. That means that Iraq can not stand on its own.
Any one know anything? Johnray1

Johnray1, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rJpTosrSMY Israeli News Live mentions US Airborne south of Mosul at minute 5.
http://www.veteranstoday.com/2016/10/19/syrian-war-report-october-19-2016-russia-sets-up-outpost-to-fight-isis-terrorists-deploying-from-iraq/ mentions 5000 special forces-most of US (some Canadian in that area as well). http://www.defconwarningsystem.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6954&start=30 has a line on Mosul but no mention of 101 Airborne there. http://www.debka.com/article/25721/The-big-Mosul-offensive-is-stuck-halted-by-ISIS- The Debka-story would give reasons to believe the US (west) has to pull the offensive because the Iraqi-forces are very divided and Turkey wants to fight with the Kurds. (As Turkey is already doing with the US backed YPG in northern Syria-two NATO countries indirect in a proxy war with eachother there !)

This is something I have been concerned about since I worked for Lockheed Missiles and Space Company in 1966. At that time we were at the cutting edge of technology and yet still - it appeared that the world could be wiped out in less than 40 minutes.
As we agonized in the campaigns over miniscule concerns, no one is talking about this. Setting up a no-fly zone - a policy endorsed by Hillary Clinton. http://www.worldtribune.com/hillary-clintons-proposed-no-fly-zone-in-syria-would-spark-disaster-former-pilots-say/ by WorldTribune Staff, October 26, 2016 Hillary Clinton’s plan to establish a no-fly zone over Syria would “be a disaster” that could lead to a military confrontation with Russia, retired U.S. military pilots said. During the third presidential debate, the Democratic candidate said: “I’m going to continue to push for a no-fly zone and safe havens within Syria not only to help protect the Syrians and prevent the constant outflow of refugees but to, frankly, gain some leverage on both the Syrian government and the Russians so that perhaps we can have the kind of serious negotiation necessary to bring the conflict to an end and go forward on a political track.” comment: as continued cuts to the military reduce our readiness and ability to keep up are hampered. The more than aptly referred to Satan II - Russian Ballistic Missile |

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-10-28/remember-when-media-sold-us-iraq-wmd-lies-its-happening-again
Russia, with Iran and a Chinese base in Djibouti, is controlling main oil-transportation lines. A new alliance with Egypt gives control over the Suez Canal. The Red Sea/Indian Ocean link is controled from Yemen (with Russian advisors and intel, Iran actively involved in the fighting, China also present). The Straits-of-Hormuz is under Iranian control. The Philipines may see Russian/Chinese navy/air force in the short term. Duterte has to proove himself if he wants to do bussiness with Russia and China. The Northern/Baltic (partly) Russian fleet is moving to the Middle East not for a short stay. China did buy the Piraeus-port in Greece https://www.rt.com/business/355523-cosco-stake-greek-port/ (the EU and IMF demanded privatizations)-and proberbly will use it for her own interest. Also Turkey has to proove to Putin what Turkey is worth. (Moscow will accept to a limit Turkish activity in Syria and Iraq). Russia (and China, Iran ?) may want to increase their influence in Libya, Somalia-maybe even Pakistan/Afghanistan. Can "the West" accept this ? The western nuclear powers (US, UK, France) are very involved in the middle east wars. Israel is in the middle of the turmoil and tries to find a balance with Russia (Minister of Defense Lieberman has a Russian background, Netanyahu likes Putin more than Obama). The Pakistan/India tensions can be stirred up by IS terrorist actions in the India-border area. China will feel stronger with Duterte in Manilla and therefor accept even less from the US (both in the South China Sea as elsewere-Japan islands). North Korea is "always in for a surprise". The chances for a nuclear war is quite large. |

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-10-28/latest-blow-us-malaysia-will-buy-navy-vessels-china After Phillipines now Malaysia is opening its door towards China. Viet Nam may be next, bordering China. Also Thailand-after the dead of their King could face "growing Chinese interest".
http://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2016/10/28/491047/Iran-to-resume-gas-exports-to-Turkey-soon Erdogan did sign a pipeline treaty with Russia, now Iran starts exporting gas to Turkey. Still Turkey is "following Turkish interests" fighting the Kurds in Syria and Iraq. Russia would like to be able to use Turkish ports, air bases (I think JD) so Erdogan can expect lots of contacts with Russia. https://www.debka.com/article/25747/Pro-Iranian-Shiites-ready-to-lead-Mosul-operation Iran and Turkey fighting for "their part of Iraq". Does IS have missiles that can reach Israel from Mosul ?

This is getting very serious. I realize over the years we all have posted many things on AFT. Sometimes we do predict events such as the Pandemic in 2009. While we have gone over coming Ice Ages, disease outbreaks and regional conflicts around the world, we may be on the brink of a single collison of either U.S. and Chinese or Russian jet fighters which will result in a launch.
Both Russia and China are anticipating conflict. America has made no move to prepare its citizens for the new Satan II missiles from Russia which can take out whole states or small countries. There is no precident in history for this election. Many years ago, when I was young we first watched the Cuban Missile Crisis and then assassination of JFK. We were on the brink of a nuclear launch by the U.S. and with our current leadership it is highly unlikely we will be the one to launch. In the 80s I put out games and one called World War III which was mentioned at the Salt Peace Talks to reduce our nuclear arms. My game later became a movie - War Games and the words "The only way to win is not to play" Global Thermonuclear War. We cannot win - no one will win. We have but one thing we can do in America. Vote. Do we want to see someone in power who will move rapidly to declare a No Fly Zone in Syria which will escalate things? Our top generals do not want to have the responsibility of doing this. Even Russia does not want to send in more bombers into Aleppo trying to give the Allies a window to stop supporting terrorists - who are the very people we are fighting and are attacking us in other areas. I once told a person on AFT - in regards to Ebola - do we want to be arguing under a tree with most of the population of the U.S. and the world dead? In the event of nuclear war - situations would much worse and we would be lucky to have a non-radiactive area free of radiation or disease to carry on the dispute. People I know are prepping across the U.S. more than ever - buying weapons and truly believe we are on the verge of anarchy. I don't advise any of this - yet we must prepare. Medclinician I do not know or support Anonymous and yet I can agree with what I believe is truth. |

Eventhough the US-elections are getting more problematic (just like coming in 2017 many European elections are going to be problematic) a nuclear war could be an "Asia-war". China versus India, Pakistan versus India, China or North Korea using nuclear weapons against Japan. Israel against Iran....Russia against Saudi Arabia...
In Asia China, Russia, India. Pakistan, North Korea and Israel have nuclear weapons. You can think of a scenario in wich Russia could loose its fleet close to the Syrian coast by a US nuclear strike and the US blocking all Russian countermeasures. For the US at this moment geo-political the situation is getting out of control. Med, as you say, in the past all kind of worst case scenarious fortunately did not become reality. Let's hope it stays that way !

It is the ranges of some of these new nuclear missiles that is disturbing. As you have said, and I deeply agree with, let's hope the worse case series of events do not happen. The U.S. remains silent - especially the military and intelligence for a good reason. Not to bring Trump into this - but - any smart person does not give the enemy a timeline of what they are doing. Also, if we do have faster and more powerful nukes, we are not like North Korea. We are not going to put them up on a video on youtube to get money. Since 9-11 there have been nothing equal to it in the U.S. and not for lack of trying. Even now, the F.B.I. is showing some real teeth and concern for our nation in relentlessly pursuing their investigation. Is there a possibility for a limited nuclear exchange? As has been explained for years and anyone (without revealing any secrets) knows - much of the missiles are computerized and a launch cannot not be recalled. This is for tactical reasons and chances of sabotage. We have grown accustomed to posturing and propaganda with a lot of smoke and awe versus actual declaration of war. I tell many people I talk to no one wants to destroy the market, the banks, or making money with a war. Burying your customers, especially for Russia, will not help their country. If I were sitting across the table from Putin right now I would say - "Yes - America is getting aggressive. In the power vacuum left you by ineffective leadership, only a blind man cannot see the aspirations of the Russian Bear to re-establish the Soviet Union and take all of its countries back. Poor leadership and weak policy and innaction have allowed you to enter and move your forces into Syria and also at times into Iran. Let's hope that some way - whoever wins the election - will be wise enough to act in a responsible and effective manner - negotiating for peace and some compromise - yet show the resolve to resist your efforts to dominate the world and at the same time avoid a nuclear war." Johnray1 The military can't win! If they keep it a secret they're lying! If they announce it , they're tipping their hand! You can't have surprise attacks without secrets! FluMom said- our military is so weak from Obama and Hillary will just continue the same. Every President since WWII has down sized the military. You should read the "Rumsfeld document"! It seems we never learn from past mistakes! If the U.S. military is at it's weakest point in decades you have to blame every President since Harry Truman. Even Eisnhower took an axe to the military budget in his fight with the "military industrial complex". The real problem is people want to be safe but they don't want to pay for it. That's why our boys go into combat without the equipment they need! Anyone who's ever had a household budget knows whats wrong in Washington! |

There is a lot of "chatter" on Mosul on the net - underground as well. For one, they may use chemical WMD against the American and other forces. Thousands of people are being used as human shields. This only become a real flashpoint for WWIII if Russia renews bombing and hits some of our troops. So far they have held back. It is unlikely any attack on our forces - unlike the proxy shelling in the waters near Yemen, will result in a display of "equal force." This doctrine is heavliy embedded behind the scenes and goes back a number of years. Effectively, this would mean a tactical nuke would be matched and we were on the verge of this in Iraq quite a few times. During the invasion of Iraq, several people I talked to stood by missiles with Saddam Hussein's face painted on the nose cone. The 101st Airborne Division (which I was in) is in Mosul. The 101st Airborne Division ("Screaming Eagles")[1] is an elite modular specialized light infantry division of the United States Army trained for air assault operations. Its unique battlefield mobility and high level of training have kept the 101st Airborne Division in the vanguard of America's land combat forces in recent conflicts.[2 4:23 p.m. CDT October 17, 2016 Iraqi forces push to take back Mosul BAGHDAD – Iraqi security forces began the offensive to retake Mosul on Monday with support from the Combined Joint Forces Land Component Command – Operation Inherent Resolve, a coalition force led by the 101st Airborne Division commanding general and others.... Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced the start of the major operation to liberate Mosul from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL. ISIL fighters have had fairly firm control of Iraq's second-largest city for more than two years. The 101st Airborne has been deployed to that part of the country for several months and given the mission of advising and assisting the Iraqi and Kurdish forces to stand on their own and take back the city. This is the 101st in Mosul, Iraq 13 years ago. This has been a pain and grief to the U.S. for a long time as well as the rest of the world. Medclinician |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03ALr_2LhwU Israeli News live on the build-up of NATO forces in Eastern Europe. His conclusion: If Putin can avoid war he will try to do so, but when there has to be war he would strike first.
http://www.debka.com/article/25749/Iran%E2%80%99s-Tel-Afar-op-is-in-sync-with-Russia-in-Syria and http://isis.liveuamap.com/ (Pro)Iran fighters have taken over the initiative west of Mosul in coordination with Russia in Syria-to block IS-fighters from moving (more troops) into Raqqa/Syria. In the article also mention of a combined communication center of Russian, Syrian, Iraq, Iran AND TURKISH (!!!) forces. http://www.debka.com/newsupdatepopup/18687/Turkey-suspends-air-strikes-over-Syria Since Syrian air defense is pointing at Turkish planes (with Russian advisors giving instructions and info to the Syrians) Turkish air cover for their Euphrates Shield operation is made impossible. https://www.superstation95.com/index.php/world/2356 Russia keeps sending navy/weapons to the middele east. On Diego Garcia there most likely is a build up of navy/airforce (US/UK) for what could be a major operation. DJ: Such a force could be seen as a defense for Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Gulf States and does not mean that the US is planning to attack/intervene in the Middle East. When Saudi Arabia ends up in a direct war with Iran, or after an Israeli airstrike on Iran-such a force can be usefull (even for Russia) to "calm things down again". After NApoleon, NAzi's will NAto attack Russia ? Bad timing since earlier wars saw winter as a Russian friend. But the US elections-chaos could be a major factor here. Russia is dominating the Syrian war by now, Iran has become a major factor in Iraq (it is unclear how long US forces can stay in Iraq). Turkey has to show Russia, Iran, Iraq, Syria what it has to offer. |

http://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2016/11/01/491717/russia-syria-daesh-fleet-flag-ship Russian Navy getting close to Syria. (DJ: I think Putin needs a quick victory in Syria-this war is expensive and Russia want to present itself as a decisive force. If Iraq asks for Russian help Russia needs to be able to offer something. Also a strong Russian presence south of Turkey (and Russia/CIS north of Turkey) should control Turkey.)
https://www.rt.com/news/365006-turkey-iraq-border-troops/ Turkey wants to deal with the Kurds inside Iraq. At the same time Russia and Turkey have talks in Moscow on Syria. Northern Iraq (including Mosul) is Sunni-populated, with Kurdish (incl. PKK) and Turkmen minorities. The fighting in the region is done largely by Shiites-(pro)-Iran groups. In the past that has given bloodbaths/etnic cleansing. Iran wants to move troops fast from Iran to Lebanon (Hezbollah). (DJ: just like in Syria the government in Bagdad does not want Kurdish groups getting to much power. If Turkey can "limit Kurdish power" to a certain limit Bagdad may allow it. Turkey can expect a lot of (Sunni and IS) refugees from Mosul-those people do not regard Shiïte groups as liberators. When Turkey in Syria moved to close to Aleppo Russia (and Syria) created a no-fly zone for Turkish planes. Russia may even welcome a Turkish invasion into Iraq when that brings Bagdad to "inviting Russian aid"). http://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2016/10/islamic-state-recognizes-oath-of-allegiance-from-jihadists-in-west-africa.php IS is growing/moving into Africa. Saudi Arabia using a route via Sudan. see also http://isis.liveuamap.com/ Boko Haram (=Islamic State in west Africa) is active in northern Nigeria but also Niger, Chad, Cameroon. Al Shabab is in Somalia-crossing into Kenya. IS itself is in Libya but the Sahara desert is linking all these groups. http://www.trackingterrorism.org/group/islamic-state-greater-sahara-isgs-islamic-state-sahara-iss-islamic-state-burkina-faso-mali-isi China has strong oil intersts in the region. What makes the present situation a nuclear risk ? Russia and the US are "managing a war" with all kinds of groups/armies. That can go wrong when the US or Russia is not in control of certain groups. (Israel attacking Iran forces close to Golan or nuclear facilities in Iran, Turkish planes being shot down by Syria, Russia, Iraq. A fight/incident between a western and a Russian/Iranian (etc) ship/plane.. To stop IS you need regime change in Saudi Arabia. For the US KSA is "the best friend they ever had". Saudi Arabia is being armed by the US for its wars in Yemen, Bahrein, Syria. At the end Russia (and other countries) can not accept the terrorist Saudi State being armed by the west since IS is a weapon against Russia and China.

Thank you, Arirish. I am often surprised at how many young people have said that to me and other veterans with me when we are together at events or just hanging at Walmart or other places. I hope it will inspire our youth to enlist and perhaps put in a few years or maybe even consider a career in the Armed Serivices of their countries to support liberty and freedom from oppression from wherever it may be in the world and keep what we hold so dear and is priceless - freedom. We do not need a lawyer, a movie star, or a criminal for the United States leader - we need a general. We are in a perpetual state of war in the world and we must act with cunning, intelligence, and even deceit - for war is a shell game - and they must never know or truly understand our force, our method, or ability to win. Thanks, Med!! I've long thought the same thing, and have looked for such a leader who might be a suitable US President. I once supported Gen. Colin Powell and admire his "Powell Doctrine" (don't go in without a plan to win & get out, basically), but his performance on Iraqi WMD turned me off. Alternatively, I'd like a leader who understands the rigors of war and can work with the generals...Abe Lincoln comes to mind, as well as Ronald Reagan. (sorry, I just saw your Movie Star comment!!) The current batch of idiots (Clinton, Trump, Johnson etc.) inspire no one. Pray for better times and prepare for a rough patch. |

De facto two groups of countries are at war with each other without directly shooting at each other. http://www.veteranstoday.com/2016/11/04/admiral-kuznetsov-carrier-group-saved-syria-from-us-cruise-missile-strikes/ When Russia did create a no-fly zone over a large part of Syria "the west" started to build up forces at sea and land to create a western variation of a "no-fly zone". This provoked Russia to start moving its Nordic/Baltic fleet-partly to the Syrian coast. The navy of Iran moved south of Yemen in between Diego Garcia and Syria/Iraq.
Via diplomatic channels proberbly the Russian/Iran message was: we will shoot down any missile or plane in a large scale western attack on Syria. When that does not do the job proberbly Russian missiles would be used against western bases. Beside that Egypt became an ally of Russia, Turkey - still a NATO member- did get involved with Russia and Iran http://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2016/11/05/492279/Iran-Turkey-Jahangiri-Zeybekci. China may have warned western countries against military actions-also with new "friends" like the Philippines (and Viet Nam). Europe will not be very supportive in a war with Russia, Obama may find combining the start of a major war with "very complicated elections" not wise. North Korea is another problem. From a "war of words" we are now in a war with positioning armies. The proxy wars in Syria, Iraq, Libya with the Saudi and CIA organized IS against secular governments may spill over into Jordan http://www.debka.com/article/25761/Manhunt-in-Jordan-for-killers-of-3-US-servicemen (what Debka does not mention is that the IS-terrorist may have come from Saudi Arabia-returned, KSA putting pressure on the US for more support) just like the Yemen-war is fought (with US weapons) on Saudi ground. https://www.rt.com/news/365423-russia-us-hacker-grid/ a cyber-war may have begun already by testing eachothers vulnerabilities.

Things are not better. While there might be improved relations with Russia under the new administration, currently there is a near power vacuum in the world as far as definitive action. We are in a window with a lame duck president and continued bickering and failure to even accept the president which offers a perfect window for a nuclear strike on America. This is not good and mainstream news won't go near this.

http://www.westernjournalism.com/russia-announces-the-deployment-of-nuclear-capable-missiles-to-western-europe/
Today both Putin and Trump issued statement they will be increasing their nuclear capability. During the Cold War and when I worked in the nuclear field at one time there were 70,000 nuclear bombs. Now there are 15,000 - 14,000 of those (close figure) are held by the U.S. and Russia. I hardly feel safe after the election for it was a situation in which neither seemed cool, calm, and collected and able to handle the pressure of a nuclear standoff like J.F. K. did. All you preppers on board her at AFT should continue to store food, water, and whatever legal arms should our cities be reduced to complete chaos after 1) a nuclear exchange 2) a bad Pandemic 3) a power grid failure after either a magnetic pulse or foreign cyber attack - or all all 3. It is unlikely anyone is going to stay above ground or be there in the streets trying to protect people should it all hit the fan. People aren't doing a whole lot of protecting anyone but their families and social groups these days anyway. I worked in 60s at Lockheed and then we had the capability to wipe out the entire planet in 40 minutes with submarine launch nuclear missiles from just outside the 12 nautical miles (22.2 km; 13.8 mi) from the baseline limit. |

The U.S. Is Now a Country That Can Be Ignoredhttp://peakoil.com/publicpolicy/the-u-s-is-now-a-country-that-can-be-ignored I think both Trump and the America people as a whole are exhibiting more and more isolationist tendencies |

With our current capability in nuclear weapons I doubt America will ever be ignored, especially now. During the last administration, it was doubtful even if there was an "incident" or a small nuke went off somewhere that the U.S. would launch nuclear weapons. People should not confuse the lack-luster foreign policy of the last 8 years with what would be the response to a threat to America. Had either candidate won the election. Hillary or Trump, neither would have any problems in giving a launch order in reponse or even an imminent possibility of a nuclear attack even anticipated by another country. The United States is one of the most, if not the most biggest consumers in the world. We buy more than $500,000,000 worth of goods than China does from us. Just because the last 8 years has been a comedy of errors, do not begin to assume the U.S. if not the most powerful nation on the planet, at least in terms of nuclear arms, is powerful enough - if anyone attacks they will find most of their cities in nuclear ash and radioactive, including their oil, for the next 40,000 years. Bashing leaders and countries has become a fashionable pasttime but when push comes to shove in an all out flame out, the nuclear 9 - would decimate the planet. http://www.mapsofworld.com/world-top-ten/world-top-ten-countries-by-nuclear-warheads-map.html I have lived with this knowledge and this reality for 50 years. And it could all happen is less than 40 minutes leaving few left alive to argue about anything. Medclinician |
