Yikes, this was really devious and clever!! I wonder if it was a "shot across the bow" by either the Russians or Chinese?

As of 2:00 AM EDT on Sat., Oct. 22, Cyber-Sleuths are still working to mitigate ongoing "attacks"causing massive Internet outages across the U.S. all day. But a troubling pattern is emerging: The attacks originate (mostly) INSIDE the U.S. According to the automated attack-monitoring-map offered by FortiGuard, much of today's Internet trouble was caused by attacks launched against Data Centers in Boston, New York, Washington, DC, San Francisco and Seattle. But the largest bursts of these attacks originated repeatedly from . . . . Wichita, Kansas. Using the GeoIP lookup system, open public records seem to indicate the attacks originated from a geographic area about 5 miles southeast of downtown Wichita, but there are no large public data centers located in that part of the city. In fact, the only large anything in that area is . . . . McConnell Air Force Base. HMMMMMMM. According to the public web site of McConnell Air Force Base, the first -and perhaps most important function -- of that base is . . . the 184th Intelligence Wing. "Intelligence" as in . . . information . . . . as in . . .computers! HMMMMM. |

Good point, Dutch Josh. I agree, we can and must communicate more effectively with Russia, with whom we share a great deal of history of collaboration, from WWII to the space station. However, we cannot treat Putin "in a vacuum..." His aggression in Ukraine has cost many lives, including your own countrymen on Malaysian Air MH 17, innocent lives of civilians in Crimea, etc. I'm not willing to forgive and forget that easily. I've long thought that the West was too provocative in incorporating nearly all of the former Warsaw Pact Nations into NATO. I shudder to think how we would have reacted in the US if Russia had included Mexico, Canada and other nearby states in a common defense pact! In some ways, it may have been a stabilizing influence, but in others, I can see that Russia views it as a "poke in the eye." Your European sensibilities are always welcomed on AFT, keep up the good work!! Cyber warfare can do almost as much damage today as nuclear warfare can. Internet has gotten so complicated that-chaos theory-it may collapse under its own weight. A small malfunction could cause a "cyber storm". No external cause needed. I think after "peak-oil", "peak-banking" we may run into "peak-internet" (maybe"peak-everything" all "systems" getting overstretched by to many people demanding to much to fast-causing climate change with increased pandemic risks, global energy and water-wars etc.) We as humans are all on the same planet. Hating groups of other people because of the colour of their skin, based on religion, or nationality, or whatever, ismaking problems larger not smaller. CRS,DrPH, thank you for your friendly words. I have very much doubts about the official MH17 story. It is-in my opinion wrong to include Ukraine and exclude Russia in the Joint Investigation Team. (Other members are Netherlands, Malaysia, Australia). The pro-Russian separatist in eastern Ukraine were (mostly) under attack by low flying (Ukrainian an Georgian Russian made) aircraft. The BUK-missile system needs a specialized team to operate and is a big danger for international airtraffic. Russia would not allow such a system to get out of their control. So, if in the MH17 story the blame is put on "rebels" I do not believe it. Ukraine itself has an older form of BUK-anti aircraft missiles that leaves a different kind of shrapnell. A motive for the Ukraine to shoot down a western civilian aircraft would be to get western military support. Certainly if such a plan was made in cooperation with western secert services. Russia is not "a saint". What Russia did and does in Dagastan, Chechnia and other Caucasus-Islamic regions comes close to state-terrorism. But that seems to be no news-eventhough it is one of the reasons IS has proberbly some 20.000 jihadi"s with Russian nationality. (And those -CIA exploited-jihadi's are the reason for Russia to be in Syria.) On Veterans Today from time to time there is mention of the use of "small scale nuclear weapons" by/via the US. (In Iraq 2003-Bagdad Airport against Iraqi elite forces a neutron bomb, Suadi Arabia may have used such a weapon in 2015 in Yemen, also in Falujah-Iraq not depleted but enriched uranium was found indicating the use of a small-scale nuclear warhead (155mm houwitzer grenade ?). The reason why Russia and China keep silent is that Russiamaybe used "forbidden weapons" in the Chechnia-Putin-war, Chinamay do the same to "calm down" Uighurs. Main stream media is failing completely in covering the most importend stories. Major warfare in my opinion is risk nr1, climate change risk nr 2 for short term human survival. Both of them have very strong pandemic risks. The Spanish Flu (1917 or 1918 depending on the storie to 1923) could get as big as it was due to World War 1. At the end of World War 2 there were several diseases widespread. (Typhoid a.o.) The Korean War had yellow fever. The present refugee-crises, the largest since World War 2-has very large health risks. (Both Syria, Libya and Iraq had relative good health systems before the "regime change"). I have the impression that "the West" is looking for a reason to start a major war with Russia (and Iran, China ?). Collective insanity rules. (The DSM for psychiatry says that "normal is what most people do" the statistic "norm" is the basics for mental health. If we are all depressed that is "normal" and not amental health issue. With that kind of thinking we are moving to a billion cars, needing several earths for consumer demand. If we do not respect "our credle, our birth-place" but bahave like spoiled teenagers ruining the place I think it is time to grow up !)

Cyber warfare is the easiest way to start a real war.
You can't detect who launched a cyber warfare strike. Its impossible. It could be a 14 yo in a basement for all we know. Its easy to be on the internet in complete anonymity. Double Tor routed, several hops, a layer of subterfuge and your a ghost. Imagine launching a false flag attack. It would be so easy. Buys some scripts from Russian hackers, build a botnet, take down all the fun websites in the USA and blame it on the Russians. On this point . Apparently Hillary and her goons were calling for law changes. She wanted cyberattack to be treated the same as a physical attack. IE cyberattack = nukes |
