We have often discussed the fact that with no power, bad things happen. In addition to social problems and looting, we now need to consider what will happen in Florida and North Carolina in terms of disease, now that the swamp has become more swamp.
Looking at the devastation and lack of power in is the perfect breeding ground with lots of people, poor sanitation, and hot temperatures. Medclinician |

Given the strength of Irma I am glad that the death tolls are relatively low. I suppose enough warning helped people to evacuate or shelter locally.
I am also wondering if the aftermath (illness, shortage of supplies including food, lack of electricity etc) might take more of a toll on the people affected. I suppose that this reinforces my thinking about a possible flu pandemic...while the flu might kill a lot, I would look to more deaths from the disruption (not necessarily total breakdown) of much of the infrastructure that we rely on. |

I sincerely doubt that a country as rich as the US needs aid from such a poor one as Mexico. However, this does demonstrate how easy it is to alienate them:
