This is an extract from an article in the Times today.
Goma The Democratic Republic of Congo has recorded its first case of ebola in the eastern trading hub of Butembo, a city of 900,000 with strong trade links to neighbouring Uganda. The latest outbreak of the disease is believed to have killed 85 people in the northeast of the DRC since July and infected another 39. Most have been in villages but about 20 cases have been in Beni, a city 35 miles from Butembo but three times smaller. “We call on the population to exercise caution, and to respect all hygiene measures recommended by health workers,” Sylvain Kanyamanda, Butembo’s mayor, said. Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.
