For comparison data it was interesting that of the Nordic Countries Sweden went for a more open approach while all the others went for stricter lock-downs early on.  On this Sweden is still showing far more deaths than the neighbouring countries.

Because of this more open approach to businesses, it seems that Sweden became a role model for those wanting less of a lock-down in the face of the pandemic (even if political and geographic differences were great). From what I have read on the internet, this support for using Sweden as a model was particularly strong in some groups within North America.   In light of that it is interesting that according to Worldometers on the 3rd September the total mortality rate for deaths from covid-19 in the USA surpassed those of Sweden.

The rounding difference is not much as both are showing 577 deaths per million population (against a world average of  112).

I suppose the moral of this is that if one wants to follow a particular model then one must expect to see similar negative results as well as what one might consider the positive aspects.
