Here in Paradise we get  "canned TV" on Cable.  We see programs two weeks after they have aired in the States.  Three channels are current and carry News and Sports, everything else is archival.

We got the Matt Lauer program last night, I wasn't about to miss that.  Before it started I challenged my little girl to name the Doomsday Top Ten.  Her #1, "Earth expoldes like Planet Krypton" didn't make the list, but many, such as pollution, a Meteor strike, tsunami, Global Warming, Ice Age and giant volcano, did.  So did Bird Flu.  Watching that portion of the broadcast. I could feel my stomach sink.  Things we've been discussing on this Forum, such as mutation, were brought up in High Definition Surround Sound.  Scarey stuff, I must admit.

Did anyone else get those gut-wrenching sensations watching the program?

Bright or not, America is all about packaging, merchandizing.
Everybody's familiar with the "Seinfeld" character known as "The Soup Nazi", I presume?  The actual real-life person who inspired the Soup Nazi has now set up franchises across the US and Canada.  These are, apparently, replicas of the small, spartan Soup Cubbyhole seen in the TV series that always had a long line snaking into it.  They've stopped short of the harsh, "No soup for you!" atmosphere, but from what I heard, investors were lining up.
My son was interested in getting a franchise for the Tacoma Mall south of Seattle.  But I guess he screwed up somewhere.  You know what they told him?  "NO FRANCHISE FOR YOU!!"

that show was ridiculous for the most part.

robots taking over the world? aliens?

what the hell. they made the real-life scenerios sound as science-fiction as a big-headed alien with a red finger and a craving for reese's pieces.

Actually, one of Valerie's scenarios WAS an Alien Invasion.  She didn't pick a mass reanimation of Zombies, however.

One of my scenarios is, Food Terrorism-

A terrorist attack to sabatage our milk and ice cream.

BIOTERRORISM—THE THREAT IN THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE

 Excerpt-

Potential Effects of Food Terrorism
Illness and Death

15. The potential impact of contaminated food on human health from deliberate acts of sabotage can be inferred from reports of unintended foodborne disease outbreaks. For example, the largest, best-documented incidents include an outbreak of Salmonella typhimurium infection in 1985, affecting 170,000 people, caused by contamination of pasteurized milk from a dairy plant in the United States.

An outbreak of Hepatitis A associated with consumption of clams in Shanghai, China, in 1991 affected nearly 300,000 people and may be the largest foodborne disease incident in history.

In 1994, an outbreak of S. enteritidis infection from contaminated pasteurized liquid ice cream that was transported as a pre-mix in tanker trucks caused illness in 224,000 people in 41 states in the United States. In 1996, about 8,000 children in Japan became ill, including some deaths, with Escherichia coli O157:H7 infection from contaminated radish sprouts served in school lunches.

If an unintentional outbreak from one food, such as clams, can affect 300,000 individuals, a concerted, deliberate attack could be devastating, especially if a more dangerous chemical, biological, or radio nuclear agent was used.

Clearly, the potential health effects of a terrorist attack must be taken seriously by the health community and by those responsible for assessing and countering terrorist threats.
