Make sure the child molesters are left in...and the rapists. I don't mean to sound heartless, but unless they've changed dramatically, sounds like a well-deserved fate!

What troubles me more than those who are locked up, are those that are let go. So, these are people with a criminal past, with no place to stay, no job, no food, and a pandemic is going on, and they've just been turned out on the streets. They're going to nicely and quietly sit down to starve and freeze to death on a curb somewhere saying "It's been a good run, matey, but we're all in now... " Don't you believe it. Desperate people will do almost anything to stay alive, and if anyone will be desperate, it will be these folks. We'd all best be prepared in case they come knocking on our doors. Odds are they won't come unarmed if they have any choice. |

There are no easy solutions. All one can do is focus on family and friends. But it does give one pause to think how governments will be respond. After the Hurricane struck New Orleans last year, hundreds of prisoners, murderers, pedophiles etc, went missing and were presumed to have escaped. Fortunately I don't live near any such facilities. Keep in mind prison guards also get sick and they might be more concerned about staying with their families than risking bringing home a virus to their family. Lots to think about. |

Absolutely BamaSteve...if you don't believe in weapons, NOW is the time to change that belief!!! It could mean your life. My hands were shaking like I had 7 grande double lattes from Starbucks the first time I shot. I went to a shooting range to choose which gun I wanted. I ended up with a 380...nice, powerful, light gun for women! If you are more comfortable shooting a revolver, they are great for women, but you have to think about reloading. Much easier with a clip. BE SURE TO GET A GUN IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY HAVE ONE - YOU WILL NEED IT!!!! |

Kind of off of subject... But this reminds me of an old rumor going around back in the cold war days about the Federal prison plan in case of a colapse of the infrastucture do to nuclear war... Supposedly the plan was that since they could not feed the prisoners or provide sanitary conditions... the warden & officers were to releasethose that were the least dangerous to society & shoot the rest in the head before abandoning the're post... I didn't believe it... But it makes you wonder what would happen

You can bet in this country (US), if prison staffing is reduced due to a pandemic below an `acceptable level', some judge somewhere will decide that to continue to incarcerate people in that facility will constitute cruel and unusual punishment. They will be released.
Prisons need more than guards and a warden. There are food service workers, medical personnel, etc. Food deliveries must be made to the facilities. If 1/3 are out due to illness, and 1/3rd are out because of fear of the flu, I doubt that correctional facilities can be maintained. Our prison population is roughly 2 million people. While not all of them are hardened criminals, they will all be desperate if they are released. Having a gun is good advice. But only if you can bring yourself to use one. |

Interesting question about the prisons. If the pandemic comes with the fury predicted, the Federal Government will step in. The announcement may go something like this: My fellow Americans. The pandemic has caused the expected major disruptions to hundreds of cities throughout our country. As a result, and in the interest of national security, I am suspending the first 10 ammendments of the US Constitution, also known as the Bill of Rights. Have a nice day. Bill of RightsAmendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Amendment II
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Amendment III
No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.
Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

As a Correctional Officer here in Canada I can tell you preparations have been going on for a few months now for a Pandemic. Most inmates have suppresed Immune systems and a pandemic will most suredly effect the jail populations.
Talks have been going on about how to staff the institutions and no one is sure how it will be done. My feeling is that once it hits those that are work will be quarintined or will choose not to go home. I am on my institutions pandemic committee and we are much further ahead of most other institutions but far from being prepared. The extra supplies we will need is staggering and no one is prepared to spend the money. Especially since it isn't in our budget. Unfortunately in Canada a disaster has to occur before any money starts to flow. Like most other government departments we are reactive instead of proactive. |

Nikita I have a CZ 75 in 9mm, high capacity (because that is what I always wanted) - in my day SF carried Browning High Powers versus the regular military govt issue 45. Except my team sgt - who always said if he got close to running out of 45 rounds then the last person he killed with his 45 that he would take their 9mm. |

What really funny is that it confirms my beleif that the goverment is making plans for the pandemic . We just wont like them. People dying on the street is part of the plan. Quarantines against our wishes, lock downs, lock outs Is anyone one else employers have plans formed commitees . I also think these commitees will be over-ruled if it dosent suit the company. I know when Sars hit Toronto it started the idea of plans . Doctors and nurses locked into hospitals although they have argued the legalities of this plan. What could happen to you couldyou be locked in at work. I am self employed and would have little income. My freind is a nurse and she says she will be locked in when it hits

A lot of people will become criminal types when the flu strikes. It looks scary
to me and I dont think we are being told all we should be told about this one. I've heard Nigeria had it in July and that German swans were infected back in October! so anying goes on this one. As for the prisoners, least of our problems. |
