Since we now have 2 different (severe) pandemic threats to follow, we created this new forum room to track the new SARS-like Coronavirus event.
Feel free to discuss the new Coronavirus here, and post the latest news, case count, etc... Best to all, Albert |

Yes confirmation this thread existed and the NY hospital was
proved false and only a rumor/hoax i hoped to use it on another forum thread as there is now talk of yet another forum and deleted thread on same subject seems to be building a mystery of its own.... |

So now we have a third (and hopefully final!) scientific name MERS CoV 2012 It is worrying that the Virologists of the world are spending time in meetings to discuss scientific nomenclature at a time like this! Whatever it is called officially can be decided on later surely? Presumably this sort of proliferation is an inevitable consequence of international 'cooperation' between virologists? Obviously they cannot dictate the vernacular 'handle' which history shows arises spontaneously - cf how the American 'Flu of 1918 was quite erroneously called the Spanish 'Flu. Saudi SARS seems to be the popular vernacular 'on the street' but the news media are avoiding using it in print presumably to avoid upsetting shareholders?
The point is well made that it can't be called 'Novel' for very long but sadly the naming of a virus using a syndrome has stuck and Saudi SARS is alliterative too (that would make the first one Hong Kong SARS of course) Simples! Now can we concentrate on preventing it from being spread globally and becoming, if not a Pandemic, endemic? |

Well, it has to be called something. I think SARS is somewhat
fitting, although the WHO won't like that name as people will associate
it once again with China as that is where SARS originated. The WHO's
Margaret Chan will do anything to protect China's image.
Although, nothing wrong with associating the name with the Middle East. Arabs generally don't like Americans for the most part anyway, and they certainly don't like/respect women - as we all know. At this rate, it the virus evolves, it will most likely be called SARS, although again, you can expect the WHO to make every effort change that to protect China. Margaret Chan will never allow that for her home country, trust me. The WHO is borderline corrupt |

Yes on CNN tonight the comments were that it probably started in Saudi Arabia .. from a Bat but they are at a loss as to how humans contract it from the bats. Has anyone heard more on this?
