Added a few items to the storehouse. (4 cans of beef stew, 6 cans of prairie belt sausages, 3 cans of sweet potatoes, 4 cans of cream of chicken soup, 4 cans of cream of mushroom soup, 9 instant puddings, 2 packs AA Batteries, 2 packs of D batteris, 2 BBQ Vienna Sausage, 3 jello, 1 worch. sauce, 1 soy sauce, 2 packs of chocolate candy) Have cleaned out more and made space for more storage of prep items. Filled about 30 more 2 liter bottles.....haven't keep a count should have a total of about 100 now. Not going to stop prepping until every nook and crannie in my house is full of needed items. Helpful hint: Store prep items in your suitcases.......free space. |

Spotted tuna on sale at Walmart for .56 a can, got 8 - it's a brand my sweetie doesn't like or I would have gotten a couple of cases. Got two 90 hour candles for a couple hurricane lamps. Another trip to Costco, filled in some holes in our fem.hyg suppy (tapped into recently, gotta rotate the stock!) "C" cell batteries for the portable TV my wife gave me as a Valentiens day gift, some other stuff. Gun show in town, picked up two shoulder holsters for me and the Mrs. Began work on a closet that we are converting to shelved storage, stage 1 rip out old shelves - completed. This necessitated removing all the preps already stored there, a good opportunity to re-acquaint myself with what we already had on hand. Not a bad little stash, heh heh. A grocery store near us is closing, the sale prices keep moving downward and I am trying to judge the "right" time to pounce... there are some things like canned beef stew that are normally too expensive, but I would take them in a heartbeat at half price. Gonna watch that one. |

So far I have gotten my second set of Rona women shelves up and now they hold all of the dish soap and cleaners and my jugs of bleach( icovered both shelves with blankets so no one can see whats on there)..well that freed up space in my pantry cupboard in the basement..and I am still washing all the size bigger clothes I got for the kids the other day and spare blankets..now I head back down to the basement..I think someone set a bomb off down there(me). be.back in a bit...

Bought two more cases of water. I need to start preparing for the electriciy going out. As for gardening and growing your own vegetables, do you folks think looters would not take the vegetables? It is easier to come around at night and swipe them rather than try to loot and get shot in the process. |

Local grocery chain running this weeks specials--10 for $10 items,
soup, side dishes and several buy one get one free coupons--peanut
butter, batteries. Seem to be running more of these specials. Might as
well take advantage of them.

Just starting We went shopping yesterday and picked up 20# of basmati rice, big bag of instant potatoes, cheap tuna and salmon at Aldis, lots of pet food, pasta, canned goods, coffee, baking mix and on and on. This morning I sterilized my half gallon jars and I'm still waiting to receive the foodsaver I bought on ebay. It was a good price, but I need it NOW. Dug my collapsable water containers out of the garage and discovered that many developed cracks. It gets very hot here in the summer and isn't kind to plastic. Guess I'll have to crawl into the attic and rummage through the wine-making supplies I've never used. I know I have big containers up there somewhere. The hubby thinks I'm loony so this morning I printed off a bunch of information from various places for him and left the stack on the table. I have a long way to go yet, but I'm so glad I found this resource and am actually doing something instead of sitting on my laurels. Today I picked up some more distilled water so I can make plenty of CS to have on hand and got a 12-pack of half pint canning jars, butter and velveeta so I can can some butter and soft cheese. STill need to start some garden seeds if I expect to have tomatoes and peppers this year. So much to do and still need to earn a living while I can. The posts and articles about pigs and cows becoming sick and dying in areas that have BF really concern me. I doubt that our government (US) will advise people to prepare. The local news isn't telling people anything either. The few people I've mentioned it to, act as though I'm goofy. I did get some Sambocol syrup and some Isatis 6, Ilex 15 and Myrolea-B from an online company and ordered 2 jars of that lauricidin stuff today. I have one round of Tamiflu and 2 of Zithromax for each of us, plenty of Mucinex and OTC cold and flu meds. When I was out today, I picked up some charcoal and lighter fluid but it's so dry here that there's a ban on cooking outside unless you use a gas grill. Little by little as time, space and funds allow, I hope to get enough put away to feel more secure. I've already told my husband that I'm not going to try to take care of everyone we know when the sky falls. Everyone can afford ramen noodles, mac & cheese, peanut butter and canned meats. Long ago when I was young, I once lived on brown rice for 6 months. Had it for breakfast with milk, sugar and cinnamon. Had it for lunch and supper with butter or soy sauce. When I could afford it I'd add canned soup or mackerel. I can finally eat brown rice again, but it took 30 years before it looked good to me. The checker at the grocery store asked me today if I was stocking up for the illness. I told her "a little bit" and asked if she was. She said she wishes she could afford to. I just smiled. |

I am lucky enough to have a camp 30 miles outside of town. Most
of my supplies have been brought home, and stored in basement.
This weekend I finally got my pick up running well and the cap put on
in preparation for hauling supplies to camp.....which is what my final
step before self-quarantine will be. My supplies are
sorted, boxed, staged and ready to load.
Most recent purchases included a Hav-a-Hart trap, and a hand pump for the dug well at camp. found a 12v heater/cooler at a thrift store.....always wanted one, and now I had a reason to get one... :) Also finished filling out a financial first aid kit.....available at: www.ready.gov/america/_download/eefak.pdf |

Today I picked up more canning jars at WM along with 4 of the 5 gallon collapsable water jugs that have handles. Bought another 14 pounds of butter, more tuna, more salmon, more dry milk, more bleach and 12 more packages of ramen noodles. Heck, I know I bought a lot more than that, but most of it is still sitting in bags waiting for me to deal with it. My foodsaver arrived yesterday so now all I need is time. Picked two more big packages of toilet paper too plus more pasta, more canned goods and fresh yeast and baking powder. Yesterday was emotionally exhausting with all the news so I figured this wasn't the time to procrastinate. I may ask our accountant to file for an extension on our taxes though. LOL!

Have done nothing big today but did pick up 3 things at the grocery store. ( Pam cooking Spray (2) Baby Wipes (1)). Try to pick up something each time I go in the store. Planning a huge yardsale a few weekends away. Have lots of stuff to get rid of since I have cleaned out almost every cabinet, nook and cranny in the house. In our area we have a Turkey Festival for the beginning day of Turkey Season. At the festival they have yard sales, entertainment, arts and crafts and so forth. Plan on using the yard sale money to prep some more.

Well, let'see. I spent over $350 on food last week, which got bagged, sorted and inventoried. I now have a complete list with LOTS of holes still, but at least they are identified. Yesterday went to Big Lots, this time they have the Canned Hams (1.5lbs) for $2.99, got 2. Target has a sale on spagetti sauce, the large jars for $.91, got 2 (have to go back, it was stupid not to buy more). Also got 2 more packages of anti-bacterial wipes. 85 lbs of kitty litter, 50 cans of cat food. Today I ordered 40 N95 masks, booties, gloves, headcovers, glasses. PREP ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Busy prep day here. Unloaded and reloaded the dehydrator. Picked up more cases of 45 TP and 10- 2 Liter Hand Sanitizers from Sams. Made a trip to Costco for some more Hormel real bacon, a couple cases of C-fold towels, more batteries for my battery operated fan, a bag of plastic spray bottles for bleach/water disinfecting solution, 4 more gallons of vinegar, more laundry detergent, more raisins and cranraisins to vacuum seal, several tins of the danish cookies, dog treats and a few more boxes of trash bags (I wonder how many is enough??? LOL). Stopped at Walgreens to pick up a few more non-mercury thermometers, a few droppers, and syringes (in case someone is dehydrated and we have to administer oral rehydration drop by drop), hydrocortisone cream, mucinex, and cotton swabs. Stopped at Dollar General market, picked up more celery, apples, and bananas to dehydrate. Stopped at Health Food store and picked up Solid Gold dog food. Going to slowly introduce to my westie, much better than the Eukanuba he has been eating. Decided to buy pee pads for him, am not sure of how to handle that situation. Not real comfortable taking him outside when tshtf. We live in the historical district of town with tons of trees and birds. Lived in the country for 17 years and have never seen this many birds or critters there!! LOL Walmart had some more 7 gallon water containers in stock. Picked up the 3 they had. Found another set of Lodge cast iron cookware on sale. Bought the last of the Bio-blue they had. When I got home the porch was loaded with boxes UPS and Fedex had delivered. Shipment arrived from Surefire with another flashlight and case of lithium batteries. These are the best flashlights! Several boxes from Honeyville Grain with couple more cases of powdered eggs, freeze dried strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Received my shipment of dried elderberries. Picked up vodka today, so looks like I will be making my tincture in the morning. My celtic sea salt order also showed up today. Also received more bucket lids...so looks like I will be packing up more buckets of rice, noodles, oatmeal, powdered milk tomorrow. My witch hazel hydrosols showed up today. (Read that is works great to spritz with and keep you cool, side effect......great looking skin!! ) I sure hope it doesn't hit while it is hot, I can't take the slightest bit of heat. I sleep with a fan on in the winter. I am sure I would be a b**ch to be stuck in the house with! Last box had my Pasta Express, not sure if it will work well or not, but worth a try. Beats using fuel up for the 8 minutes of cooktime. Will have to check it out this weekend.... Need to pick up more bags of lime tomorrow. Does anyone know how much would be sufficient? So far, I only have 1 50 lb. bag. |

. Got six more cans of beef broth for soup with rice and beans, worked on buying a few more supplies with my girlfriend. I really just want to make sure she is ok and will survive this crap. We will make that 90 mile trio to the sams and the costco , we will also go to the local walmart and pick up some shampoo too. Since we have lots of veggies, we will get some more fruit and meat and pasta. |

I haven't done that much this week. Shame on me. I did get out of the house and purchase some garden seeds today. I purchased heirloom seeds and I purchased two of each packet so that I could put one packet back. I will be going to town tomorrow to the store, not sure what I will get. The local sales this week aren't very good. One store does have Gatorade bottles 10 for $10 so I might pick up some of those. |

I had been wanting an Excalibur for years now. Husband suggested last month for me to order one since we were prepping. I bought mine from Excalibur's site. Their pricing includes free shipping, extended warranty, and some freebies to choose from when purchasing. I ended up getting the newer one with timer and 9 trays. They were very fast shipping. Love the dehydrator, works great! I need to keep it running non-stop, but its a job prepping vegs & fruits, etc. Guess I just need to be more organized! LOL

I am so sorry, just saw your post today, please forgive me for not pm-ing you sooner. I use quart canning jars and fill 1/3 way up with the dried elderberries. Fill with 80 proof vodka to the neck of canning jar. Put on lid,
shake real good. Put in dark, cool place for at least 2 weeks. I shake each jar daily. After a few weeks, just strain into sterilized jars, and store.
I use cheesecloth to strain mine, and decant into brown boston round bottles. I use the boston rounds because the amber glass keeps light out.
I ordered some 32 oz. boston rounds with caps, and then a some 4 oz. with dropper to dispense. You can also use the cobalt blue bottles too.I have ordered all my bottles from ED Luce for years. I imagine you can use canning jars, just won't have as long as a shelf life. 12 quarts of elderberry tincture is quite a bit. A heck of a lot cheaper than the 7 bottles of Sambuccol I bought!
I used 4 lbs. of elderberries, and 5- 1.75 L bottles of 80 proof vodka. It made 12 quarts. I just store the canning jars in the box the canning jars
came in during the 2 weeks. Just make sure to put them in a dark place.
I also went through my dried berries real good before I made the tincture.
I made sure to pick out any stems, etc. Have read that stems can be toxic. I just poured out onto a cookie sheet and picked through real good.
You might want to wear gloves while you do it, otherwise you will have purple stained fingers!! LOL
If you have any questions, just holler, again, I am so sorry for the delay in getting back with you.
