Thanks waterboy. This is information we can use and work with, sad as it may be. I miss seeing you be the leader of bringing us late breaking news that helped keep this site chugging along.

Two Columbus girls are in isolation at Nationwide Children’s Hospital as health officials await Ebola test results that aren’t expected for several hours.

The girls, 4 and 6, recently traveled to West Africa with their mother and had been monitored daily by Columbus Public Health for 17 days since their return, spokesman Jose Rodriguez said this morning.

The girls developed high fevers overnight and their family notified health officials about 1 a.m. today, he said. When Columbus Public Health last checked in yesterday morning, the girls had no symptoms, Rodriguez said.

Test results for Ebola and respiratory illnesses are expected by 6 p.m. tonight, he said. Samples have been sent to the Ohio Department of Health’s laboratory in Reynoldsburg.

Health officials continue to monitor the girls' mother and two other family members, he said.

City and state health officials, as well as medical staff at Children’s, have been in contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Rodriguez said at least one of the girls had a cough, which is not an Ebola symptom, according to CDC.

“We are following all protocol for safety to make sure everybody at the hospital and the EMS and everyone is safe,” he said.
