RAMALLAH, March 10 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian from the West Bank city of Bethlehem died on Tuesday from H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu, at an Israeli hospital, Palestinian medics said.

Mohamed Rezeq, director of the health sector in the Ministry of Health in the West Bank, told Xinhua that the patient is 43 years old and died after he was infected with the H1N1 virus.

"The patient was getting medical treatment at one of the Israeli hospitals and his condition deteriorated due to the infection. He suffered from lack of immunity," said Rezeq.

It is the first death of patients infected with H1N1 virus in the Palestinian territories.

Rezeq added that three other cases had been identified in the city of Bethlehem since the beginning of 2015 but they all recovered.

Earlier this month, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that eight cases infected with H1N1 were discovered in the Palestinian territories, all of them recovered.
