Albert under General should we set up a MERS section that tells people first about the virus, second what to do to try and not get the virus, third what to do if you think you have the virus, fourth when to go to the Doc or ER, and fifth when to SIP.
As usual AFT is the leader and people will start looking to us to have all the necessary information. We certainly can refer how to SIP to all of our already extensive subjects here on that but when the CDC starts to inform the public that Doc and ERs should be on the look out we could be in trouble faster than we know. If you need help in filling in the blanks on a MERS section, I can go to the CDC and get much of the information (cut and paste) and our experts here can elaborate on what is missing. P.S. I see a MERS section but it is just the news on that we need a "guided information" for the general public if this gets bad. |

Sure flumom, it sounds like a good idea. I also know that we've
created separate forums and websites in the past for those things as
well, maybe too many lol. We've done that in that past because we never
know which one will be "the one". The latest being the Ebola site,
which I actually feel a little bad for removing that one with very (or
none) little notice, which will never happen again.
I actually brought the old MERS forum back and put it online for a rainy day down the road and so we can begin getting indexed on the search engines early, again. The new MERS site will most likely be kept up indefinitely this time, or for a very long time. I didn't mention it to anyone as I assumed people are getting sick of our new forums popping up around here, although in this day and age, it seems we a have a new virus threat to deal with every 6 - 12 months. I've been spending a little time adding content to it, etc.... again, really didn't want to bother anyone with it since we've done it so many times in the past. I thought maybe it should at least sit dormant until the time is right, and so it's ready. I revamped the old MERS site a bit..... MERSinfo.com This one we will keep up for a long time. Like I mentioned, I wasn't keeping it from anyone, I just figured people are getting tired of these new projects and couldn't bring myself to burdening people once again. |

Yeah. I remember you saying you want to hold on to that one. And if this outbreak is squashed, then the bug is still floating around in KSA in camel bats and will return.
.... Mutations found that allow MERS to jump from bats to humans By Stephen Feller June 11, 2015 at 2:08 PM MINNEAPOLIS, June 11 (UPI) -- Researchers have discovered two mutations that likely allowed Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus, or MERS-CoV, to transmit from bats to humans. MERS, a viral respiratory disease, was first diagnosed in 2012 in Saudi Arabia and has infected more nearly 1,200 people and led to 442 deaths, including the recent outbreak in the Republic of Korea. In the new study, researchers at the University of Minnesota compared the sequences of MERS-CoV and two MERS-like viruses in bats, discovering two mutations that allow the bat viruses to infect human cells, according to a press release. In order for a virus to infect host cells, it must attach to a receptor on the host cell and be activated by it's enzymes, which allows for the fusion of the virus and host cells. The two mutations were similar to ones discovered that allowed the virus that causes Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS, to jump from animals to humans. UM researchers suggest future studies on both diseases need to examine the evolutionary processes that allowed each virus to mutate in order to infect human cells. http://www.upi.com/Health_News/2015/06/11/Mutations-found-that-allow-MERS-to-jump-from-bats-to-humans/8601434041152/ Oops. This was already posted earlier today. Sorry arirish |

Possibly. Although they are formally saying it will not continue much longer the quarantine it is not a well enforced one and it may spread. |

Thanks Albert, maybe we need a "referral spot" to tell people where it is. I really appreciate all your work in getting these sites done. One day we will all be grateful that people will be informed it may save our lives and all those poor people who do not prep.
I keep saying there are too many people and mother nature will find a way to get rid of many of us. |
