Ok guys, I know I have asked this before but I am now serious about buying full face gas masks. I have looked at the SGE 400/3 but there are so many out there. I want to stay around $200.00.

I do NOT want old used military I want new.

All you military guys do I need the "drinking system". That is a sealed straw that goes to a canteen.

I have to have "glasses" for mine so that has to be an option.

Any one have experience with gas masks?

Hi Flumom, I can help. I spent a serious amount of time researching masks before purchasing. The key thing to look for is get ones with the 40mm NATO fittings. This gives you flexibility with filter selection. It's the most common filter size.

The 3M proprietary masks (and the alike) are not good as you are forced to use their filters, which, in a emergency could be difficult to source.

The military have one filter for all emergencies. Its called a CBRN filter, which covers you for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear threats. It covers pretty much everything. Its what you need in your emergency kit. The only thing is these filters are crazy expensive for what you get.

I found after much research, CBRN filters are tested to the same standard that the industrial grade filters. Essentially they are identical to off the shelf product. The  code you need is A2B2E2K2P3. There are many suppliers all are tested to meet the niosh standard

Be aware don't buy ex military filters!!!! All filters have a shelf life. The military ones are usually past best.  I purchased new 3M brand as they had the longest shelf life.

This is what i purchased. Its ex police/military and they are definitely the way to go. The testing that is done on them is very extensive. Other masks i know of have fogging issues, they don't have drinking straws and hot changing capabilities. I have eight of them of these:

British Army MoD Ex Police S10 FM12 Respirator Gas Mask Good Used Condition Sz 2

British Army FM12 Respirator Gas Mask

Also get the twin port version as you have the choice to run one or two filters.  Apparently when you are under heavy breathing load the twin filters will give you the ability to haul arse.

This is where i got mine:

hope this helps.

And remember, your hair will stop the mask from sealing all the way.
Practice putting it on too.
