A lot of testing is going on right now and it is very serious. The U.S. is about to have a test today
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/12/10/army-prepares-for-frenzy-as-it-readies-test-missile-launch/?intcmp=hplnws North Korea claims to have a nuclear bomb http://www.businessinsider.com/experts-skeptical-north-korea-claims-developed-hydrogen-bomb-2015-12 and the recent test of a Chinese nuclear delivery vehicle as well as claim of a satellite destroyer are very ominous. As China continues to prepare for a possible confrontation in the China Sea with U.S. ships and planes this is serious. Medclinician |

http://thebulletin.org/search/topics/nuclear-weapons
The doomsdayclock is still at three minutes to twelve. http://thebulletin.org/three-minutes-and-counting7938 I would not be surprised if it was put at two minutes to twelve (or worse). Nuclear weapons are one reason for alarm, speeding up climate change (with increase of weather extremes worldwide) are another. Also global economy is not doing that good (if oilprices are an indication). The large refugee-crisis and possible movement of troops to war-zones might spread disease. Also (state)terrorism (sometimes used as an excuse for military action) is a big problem. There were more reasons for the US dropping two A-bombs on Japan in august 1945. It did speed up the Japanese surender (eventhough there were already talks but disagreement on what conditions Japan would surender). The US also wanted to make clear that the US "did win the war". Some head of state also could use nuclear weapons to make a "statement", draw a line. Of course that can escalate (very fast).

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-12-11/russian-military-told-strategic-nuclear-forces-amid-rising-tensions-us
Earlier we reported that in response to the escalation in the Syria proxy war, where the latest development was yesterday's arrival of German warplanes and supporting troops in Turkey, Putin gave one simple command: "I order to act extremely tough. Any targets that threaten Russian forces or our infrastructure on the ground should be immediately destroyed." However, Syria was a secondary topic on Putin's mind today when during a meeting with his defense chiefs, Putin gave the order "to strengthen Russia’s strategic nuclear forces amid rising tensions with the U.S. over the global balance of power." As Bloomberg reports, new weapons should go to “all parts” of the nuclear triad of air, sea, and land forces, Putin told a Defense Ministry meeting in Moscow on Friday. Action must also be taken “to improve the effectiveness of missile-attack warning systems and aerospace defense.” |

https://www.rt.com/news/321434-us-missile-shield-putin/
Vladimir Putin said the US is trying to “neutralize Russia’s nuclear potential” with its on-going deployment of a missile defense shield in Europe. The Russian president has promised a response. “References to Iran and North Korea nuclear threats are just a cover for the true purpose [of NATO missile defense]. That is to neutralize the potential of other nuclear states not the US or its allies – primarily Russia,” Putin said during a meeting in Sochi dedicated to national military development. “The US is attempting to achieve strategic military superiority, with all the consequences that entails.” Vladimir Putin has reminded that Iran reached a landmark nuclear deal with world powers in July. The agreement would remove sanctions that have crippled its economy, in exchange for severe restrictions on Tehran’s nuclear program. Russia has been repeatedly told Iran is the main threat. “Now, the Iranian problem is off the table – treaties have been signed and ratified. Yet, the work on missile defense continues, as before,” Putin said. The Russian leader promised Russia would take the “necessary measures to respond by strengthening its own missile defense.” “And at the first stage we are also going to develop strike weapons that can penetrate any missile defense shield.” |

Things are escalating in the Middle East and there is talk of launching a nuke on Raqqa. It is very important we constantly hear both sides.

There is a future for independent journalism. Possibly America should become aware of the potential of this.

The superpowers are gearing up for the possibility of a nuclear war. If even the ignition of one nuclear device becomes "acceptable" then others will follow. The current situation in the world is not like the scares during the 50s and 60s which never resulted in a nuclear exchange between Russia and the U.S. Because of the involvement of unstable nations who have nuclear weapons as well as terrorist groups or lone wolves who may have suitcase or other small weapons - there is a danger.
This is escalated with the rise of Isis who is a real threat and either has or will have access to weapons of mass destruction. When people of a nation go to join our enemies and fight against their own country, these are acts of treason and should be dealt with as such. This is not only happening in the U.S., but globally. The problem is if nations support terrorists and those who have made it clear they wish to see America and other Western nations destroyed and they receive support and arms for whatever reason, eventually those arms will be used against the countries providing them. |

Thanks, Med! I have some training in this area....I'm not nearly as concerned about the possibility of a nuclear exchange between states (say USA and Russia) as I am that a rogue group will get their hands on a nuclear device and use it in a terrorist attack on a major city.
For example, the fact that Pakistan has perhaps 120 nuclear warheads leads me to think that a warhead could be passed to a Sunni group (like ISIL) rather easily, and then used against any of a number of population centers. A missile is not required....it would be easy to put a warhead in a small boat, approach a major coastal city like NYC, and detonate the weapon close to the financial district/population center such as downtown Manhattan, Amersham etc. It could also be brought over in a private jet, no one would ever detect it until detonation. This is my biggest fear, beyond bioterrorism, avian influenza, or anything else.

From Wikipedia: The state religion in Pakistan is Islam, which is practiced by about 95-98% of the 195,343,000[1][2] people of the nation.[3][4][5] The remaining 2-5% practice Christianity, Hinduism and other religions.[5][6] Muslims are divided into the following sects: the majority of them practice Sunni Islam, while 5-20% are Shias[3][5][6][7][8][9] and 2.2% are Ahmadi Muslims,[10] although the last are not permitted to call themselves Muslim. Nearly all Pakistani Sunni Muslims belong to the Hanafi Fiqh Islamic law school.[5] The majority of Pakistani Shia Muslims belong to the Ithnā‘AshariyyahIslamic law school, with significant minority groups who practice Ismailism, which is composed of Nizari (Aga Khanis), Mustaali, Dawoodi Bohra, Sulaymani, and others.

Since the US has freedom of religion and freedom of firearms at 22 locations Pakistani islamic radical groups are training inside the US. Some of the trainees proberbly end up fighting for IS.
