Xinhua said the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) disclosed the case to the public late on Tuesday. The patient, a 34-year-old male from Ganxian county of Jiangxi province, travelled to Venezuela and showed signs of infection on January 28, before returning to his hometown last week, according to Xinhua. The man was quarantined and treated in a hospital in Ganxian starting on Saturday. “He is now recovering with normal body temperature and fading rash,” the agency said. “The NHFPC said that according to evaluation by public health officials and experts, the risk of further spreading of the virus due to this imported case is extremely low due to low temperature,” it added. More cases in Barbados Meanwhile, Barbados on Tuesday confirmed three cases of Zika in pregnant women, bringing to seven the number of people in the country with the virus, which is believed to be linked to birth defects. The women will be given specialized obstetric care, the ministry of health said in a statement. Zika, a primarily mosquito-borne illness, has spread rapidly through Latin America and the Caribbean. It generally causes mild symptoms but has been blamed for a rapid rise in the number of children born with abnormally small heads and brains. Barbados said that link has not been confirmed.
