Hi Guys, just spent some time looking at preventative measures to reduce exposure to Mosquito's. I live near a river so i have heaps around my house.

And have Zika near by.

Apparently planting citronella around the house will help as its a natural repellent. Citronella is also commonly know as lemon grass.

If there are any easy methods like this i'd be keen to hear of them.

I suggest you move! Colorado does not have the mosquitos that carry Zika.

This is another reason not to live in hot humid areas! LOL!

But seriously I would use screens and lots of bug spray.

Supposedly we don't have the carrier mozzies.

Its dry where I am. (driest place in the world) We have aedes type mozzie but a differing genus.

I still don't feel too safe.

Open water (as you know already) breeds the little bug'''s if the water is needed like rainwarer collection for watering animals/plants a thin layer of vegetable oil on the surface suffocates their larvae, without poisoning the water.

That works for water buts and the like, but a river stumps me.  I would use citronella around the place, deet on me, screens on doors and windows, and nets over the bed.

Perhaps FluMom has the best approach.
