https://newsdaily.com/2016/03/mexico-sees-spike-in-h1n1-swine-flu-cases-68-people-dead/ MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Mexico has seen a sharp jump in cases of the virus H1N1, popularly known as swine flu, killing 68 people so far this flu season, according to health ministry data. The overall number of flu cases and deaths has also risen, but the H1N1 statistics are striking. The Mexican government has detected 945 cases of H1N1 this season, compared with just four cases and no deaths last season. But the Mexican government emphasized schools should not shutter their doors due to the flu. “We are not facing an epidemic that would justify closing schools,” Education Minister Aurelio Nuno said at a news conference this week. Before the Pandemic 2009 http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/news/20090424/mexico-swine-flu-epidemic-worries-world April 24, 2009 -- Mexico's deadly swine flu outbreak is caused by the same virus identified in the U.S., says CDC Acting Director Richard Besser, MD. The CDC is analyzing 14 virus samples sent from Mexico. Seven of them, the CDC learned today, are very similar to the unusual swine flu strain isolated from U.S. patients. "People are concerned about this situation," Besser said at a news conference. "We are worried as well. Our concern has grown since yesterday." Sixty people in Mexico have died of the flu -- and so far, 16 of the deaths are confirmed cases of swine flu, news sources quote Mexican officials as saying. World Health Organization spokesman Gregory Hartl told the Canadian news agency CBC that there have been some 800 cases in Mexico City, where schools are closed due to the outbreakBefore 2009 Pandemic 800 cases and 60 deaths 2016 March 3 945 cases and 61 deaths comment: Swine Flu was poorly reported last time before it spread all over the world and we had a Pandemic. You would think they would have learned. Doesn't look like they have at all. Medclinician |

The H1N1 virus, also known as the swine flu, has killed three people in Juárez as cases in the borderland are rising this flu season, health officials on both sides of the border said this week. El Paso has recorded 29 cases of the H1N1 virus this season, while Juárez has 16 confirmed cases, officials said. No deaths from the virus have been reported in El Paso. Across the nation, more than 4,600 H1N1 cases have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control this season as of Feb. 26, the CDC reported. The flu season typically begins in October and continues through March, although health officials said the season started late this year. The CDC reports that the H1N1 virus that caused a pandemic in 2009 is now "a regular human flu virus and continues to circulate seasonally worldwide." In Juárez , a 38-year-old woman died March 3, two weeks after being admitted at the Social Security Mexican Institute hospital with signs of malnutrition, officials said. She had not been vaccinated against the virus. comment: Swine Flu is in the U.S. i.e. El Paso where I was trained in the Army. Not sure what a "regular human flu virus" is opposed to an "irregular flu virus." Medclinician |
