CONAKRY (Reuters) - Two people have tested positive for Ebola in Guinea, the government said on Thursday, hours after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared neighboring Sierra Leone's latest outbreak was over.

Four people were tested and two of them were found to have Ebola, a government agency spokesman said. They were all from Korokpara, a village where three people from the same family have died in the past few weeks from diarrhea and vomiting.

"All of the sick people have been taken to the Nzerekore treatment center," the National Coordination of the Fight against Ebola in Guinea's Fode Tass Sylla said.

The recent Ebola epidemic is believed to have started in Guinea.

Not so much that it's back, Med - just that's it's following the same pattern it has in the Congo for decades, but in a much larger population. New outbreaks should be expected in West Africa and probably elsewhere in the years to come.

Perhaps they never really stopped.  The biggest problem as Ebola has not been eradicated is that it will mutate.

Ibrahima Sylla, spokesman for the national coordination for the fight against Ebola, said Thursday that samples from two dead bodies tested positive for the virus. The bodies were tested in Koropara, in the N’Zerekore prefecture about 620 miles southeast of Conakry.

Sylla said there are three other probable cases. He said health authorities have taken appropriate measures to contain the spread.

I suspect you're right, Med.

This is more than a few cases.

http://www.yenisafak.com/en/life/two-new-deaths-816-suspected-ebola-cases-in-guinea-2437472

Guinean authorities have announced the death of two people from Ebola virus and 816 suspected cases in the southern part of the country where the virus reappeared last week.

So far the deadly virus has killed four people since it reappeared last week in the West African state, Fode Tass Sylla, communications officer of Guinea's National Coordination of the Fight Against Ebola, said late Monday.

"A little girl died in the city of N'zerekore while her mother, also contaminated, is currently in the Ebola treatment center," Sylla said.

The second victim died in Macente, 150 kilometers from N'zerekore, Sylla added.

http://www.wthr.com/story/31618954/who-says-new-case-of-ebola-confirmed-in-liberia

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) - The World Health Organization says a new case of Ebola has been confirmed in Liberia, days after saying the outbreak no longer qualifies as an international health emergency.

WHO said on Twitter Friday investigations are underway. It reiterated that Ebola is no longer an international health emergency, but flare-ups, at decreasing frequency, are expected. Liberia was declared free from transmission in January.

Flare-ups have occurred before in Liberia, and in Sierra Leone and Guinea, though health authorities say those are not linked to the original chain of transmission. WHO says Guinea has confirmed eight cases and seven deaths since late February.

No matter how many times WHO or any other group proclaims West Africa Ebola free, it is not over. It probably has never been over, and amidst outbreaks and more cases, Ebola is still and will be a problem for a long time.
