And overfishing. Complete collapse of all food fish stocks by mid-century by most estimates. Just about the time fresh water will become a scarce commodity in many regions, and our population will outstrip food production. Teach your kids how to survive, because weβre not leaving them the same world we grew up in.

Thanks, this is in my wheelhouse...I did work with the New England fishing industry based in Gloucester, Massachusetts in the late 1970s and witnessed the collapse of the New England cod fishing industry, due to rampant overfishing and poor conservation. The Georges Banks have never recovered, and cod are now migrating north towards cooler waters.
Besides over-fishing and pollution, we must be concerned about the decline in oxygen production. This one is very serious, folks - we cannot prepare for something as drastic as not enough breathing air. If this comes to pass, it is ELE (extinction level event). https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-ocean-is-running-out-of-breath-scientists-warn/ |

Same with the cod industry in the UK's North Sea,i believe it's very bad off the coast of China and Japan,
Australia banned a huge Floating Fish Factory from fishing our waters, "Supreme Being" only knows what's happening in the Southern Ocean with is hard to monitor |

Lucky for me, I don't like cod. Although, I'm quite fond of oxygen.

It is reasonably common knowledge that oceanic hypoxic zones are primarily produced by agriculture. The secondary cause (almost as large) is the burning of fossil fuels:
"In addition to fertilizers, the other primary culprit is the consumption of fossil fuels. Burning gasoline and diesel results in smog-forming nitrogen oxides, which subsequently clear when rain washes the nitrogen out of the sky and, ultimately, into the ocean." "Good clean coal" Trump? Source: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/oceanic-dead-zones-spread/ There is a nice (old fashioned meaning of nice - accurate, not pleasant) map here: https://oceanleadership.org/research-uncovers-microscopic-key-to-reducing-ocean-dead-zones/#post/0 |

In that map there is a big red dot were I am living.
As part of the move to try to slow down / reverse the problems, our septic tank was deemed too old - and as there was not enough land down hill of our house to put in a new system we had to go the expensive route of hooking up to the village drainage system. For our red spot we need a) several very large storms to churn up the bottom layers, and b) an absolutely massive storm surge into the Baltic Sea (via the straights between Sweden and Denmark), to bring in more salt water. Side note: we were/are very sparing with water use, so it was when we had guests that the septic tank used to overflow out onto the road in front of our house So now we don't need to worry about that. |
