Fascinating, if slightly flawed. It got almost everything right. Like all good propaganda, a few tweeks to the truth in precicely chosen places, can skew the conclusions massively.

1, Who makes the laws? If they are rigidly fixed they cannot grow with the changing needs of the population. For example, who saw the whole blossoming of social media 50 years ago? 500 years ago the concept would be unthinkable. Five years from now it will be different again. Fair laws need to adapt.

2, America already has an oligarchy. It is not possible to succeed in politics without massive financial backing.

3, Government does not have total power on the extreme left. Extreme left governments always become dictatorships.

4, Extreme right governments end up as oligarchies. That is what the BIG money is accumulated for - POWER.,

5, Democracy is the only way to correct these potential problems; and yes, it is flawed. Mob rule (a better translation) is literally that, rule by a MOB and like all mobs they react rather than plan. Some of those reactions are terrible.

So what can you do? Democracy is still the least worst option, but it is not incompatable with a republic. Balancing the two systems is supremely difficult, but not impossible. First you need a separate judiciary, both trained and appointed by the democratically elected representatives of the people. Then you have to slow down the mob, giving them a chance to think. This increases the effective intelligence of a mob by orders of magnitude. You do that by having a second house. Ring any bells?

It is still flawed, but we simply have not come up with anything better yet. Worse, it disintegrates if you let it. Freedom democracy and self determanism, justice, security and the right to improve your lot in life are never permanent without help. They have to be fought for, not once but continuously.

That is why I believe, despite all the horrors it entails, in the right to bear arms. Government is for and by the people, but only for so long as they appreciate it enough to fight, campaign and (if necessary) die for it.

Anyway, Thanks FluMom. Like democracy that may be flawed but it was the least worst lesson nontheless.
How do you tell if a politician is lying?
His lips or pen are moving.
