Since january 2022 did see an explosion of (most Omicron) cases, increase started in december 2021-and South Africa statistics may indicate people dying from Omicron may be 6 weeks after testing positive I do expect february to see an increase of deaths... December 31 had 289,667,245 cases, january 31 had 378,993,044 cases...so in january allmost 90 million cases showed up !!! The most welcome number of deaths would be 0 !!!! We all would love this pandemic to be something of the past...but it is not ! February 1 did bring 11,326 global reported new deaths...global trend +14%.... "Omicron" being mild was based on looking at South Africa deaths after only four weeks...wishfull thinking... DJ-I would not be surprised if we did see the record of 17,539 deaths of january 27 in 2021 was broken...I hate it ! But we need realism...there is NO "mild pandemic".... I want to keep an eye on numbers this month-hope to be totally wrong early march... |

february 1=11,326 daily world o meter numbers.... 2=12,180 (total 23,506 3=11,310 (34,816 deaths in first 3 days...) 4=11,287 (46,103 in 4 days) trend +13% 5=8,337 (saturday) 54,440 in 5 days, trend +10% (the number ;5x28 would bring 305,000 february deaths...february 2 now put at 12,450 deaths after correction, 12,165 for february 3 New numbers ? worldometers graph - including corrections ? Since I compare present numbers with numbers of graph I use graph numbers... feb. 1 =11,953 2= 12,450 (highest since may 3= 12,165 4= 11,631 total 48,199 5= 8,362 (saturday) 8,382 after control, 9,150 ? 6= 6,352 (not corrected - sunday -trend +8%) 6,370 after control ? graph showing 7,215 (feb.9) 7= 8,606 8=12,476 (something between 36,000-37,000 from 5-8 february on top of 48,000 the first 4 days would see 85,000 deaths so far in february x 3,5 would translate into smething like 297,500 deaths for all of february ? https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/south-africa/ deaths still going up...peak of people dying from Omicron 8-10 weeks after getting infected/peak of cases ???) (12,919 on the 8th-graph update...) 9-11,707 |

Maybe another way to work on it is to look at totals...january 31 ended with 5,696,839 deaths...february 10 8.30 AM CET puts that number at 5,796,553...so close to 100,000 new deaths in less then 10 days... Since we had an explosion of around 25 million tested and reported cases in december-most Omicron BA.1 and BA.1.1-and South Africa statistics indicate people dying much later after a positive test then with earlier variants-number of deaths worldwide in february and march may give some indication on how "mild" or better different BA,1/BA.1.1 is... Over 300,000 deaths in february may indicate "Omicron is not that mild" after all... |
