This is a topic that has more options/configurations than Starbucks has coffee beans! With today’s technology in bulbs and batteries you can customize your beam thrower to perform as you desire. Or you can find a stock flashlight that meets your needs.

First of all, you can never have too many flashlights. (I have at least 25, with half of ‘em modded!) Clap

You can never find a fresh one when you need it. (Unless you have 25 or more.) Wink

You can always find a brighter flashlight or configuration. Cry

You can always find one that runs longer than yours. Confused

Etc…

You get the idea.

If you want a long running flashlight with good area coverage, get LED lights.

If you want a piercing long range light, get the newer powerful bulbs now available. BTW, these lights are so powerful that you can literally temporarily blind a ‘bad guy’ and buy yourself some time to do what you need to do. (DO NOT look into the face of these lights regardless how curious you are!)

I’ve yet to purchase any ‘shake ‘em up’ lights, so I’ll not comment on them.

If I have tweaked your interest, go here, http://candlepowerforums.com , and roam around. Check out some of the simple modifications that can increase the life and light of your humble MagLites.

My favorite mod so far is the easiest and one that any of you can perform. Take a 3 ‘D’ cell MagLite and insert four ‘C’ cells. Yes they will fit. The light output is amazing. You are slightly overdriving the bulb but I’ve use mine now for over a year and a half with the same bulb.

There are a few suitable easy upgrade kits available in some stores that will enhance your mundane and tepid flashlights. Try one and if you’re impressed then go to the link above and find out what flashlights are really capable of with modifications.

I can’t cover all the combinations of bulb, batts and bodies here. I just wanted to whet your lumen appetite. Lamp

Now don’t blame me if all of a sudden your flashlights start to breed in the dark recesses of your dresser drawer, glove box, 1st aid kit or BOB. If you are like me, you’ll find that there are flashlight mutants out there that would make Godzilla’s creators jealous.

Enjoy! Hug

I picked up a pair of Cyclops flashlights at Sams for under $18. I ordered a 4 watt UK lamp assembly for under $10 and a 2 watter under $7.

I'm very impressed with the 4 watt modded output for less than $20! Thumbs Up

Sweet lady, living in a hurricane rich environment I've been into preps for many years. I have most of what I believe I'll need to care for me and mine.

Water, food and shelter should be on the top of everyones list. But with an extended crisis there are many items that could make a difference twix dying and surviving. Or the diff twix barely surviving and surviving with some comfort.

Most posts I initiate cover subjects that I have failed to find on this site. I have found soooo much info here and I'm trying to do my small part in turn.

Now I may have missed your 'smilie' and taken your post the wrong way. If so, whoops... my bad!

Looking forward to your insights and contributions.

This is like overclocking your flashlight instead of your computer LOL.  Willing to see I will try a flashlight instead of my CPU ROFL will check it out.  Raising the voltage increases the output......
