I decided today that instead of trying to hide preps in my home in closets or whatever, I am simply going to make mock covers for things. I have shelves in the basement with cans of food, juice, etc. I am going to make box covers to go over these that say things like "Christmas decorations, Halloween costumes" etc. These will be made to look like anyones basement storage. The water barrels I will cover with skirting and put a piece of wood on the top to look like a craft table. I am hoping to be able to put other things like flashlights and first aid kits in 6 gallon pails, which will just look like any basement item. The point is to hide in plain site.
President Bush's plan describes civil unrest and I do believe that all of us will be somewhat vulnerable. I just hope to have some extra water and food sitting out to look like that is all we have saved. |

Good thinking Therese. Christmas boxes are a great idea.

I was thinking of the same thing although I was going to stash them throughout the house. My food right now is in the garage although some of it is in a spare bedroom

These are great ideas that I hadn't thought of before.
My idea is to put extra cash in an envelope and tape to the back of the washer or dryer.

I wrote this last night somewhere in this site, but can't find it now lol but it might bear repeating here.
I own a cat, and think it would be a good idea to hid the larger stash of money in an envelope, then ducktape it to the -inside- bottom of his litter box. Start with a washed and dried box, so the tape seals good, then cover completely with the duck tape and you should be able to continuing using scoopable litter without a problem.
