Ok, sorry I haven't posted in awhile. But I've got to share this with you all, remember when I posted about the "CDC" wanting to conduct a VOLUNTARY survey on me and my family "Purely for statistical reasons". They've been calling for about two weeks now,at random. Today, the lady would not stop talking. I don't want to take the survey, I thought it was all voluntary, the lady whom I was speaking with was so flustered "oh, oh... let me ask my supervisor how to proceed" HELLO, I don't want to take your survey. Figured that would be enough? So, I politely said "please stop calling and requesting information as I do not want to participate" I had things to do,I was in a rush to go get my crying kid... anyway,I hung up and they called BACK! And keep calling and calling...I mean,****...I didn't realize I had to take the stupid survey? They wanted info about my youngest son. I , for obvious reasons, didn't want to give out info or take the survey. What are all your thoughts?

PS....the survey was about when and with what my child has been vaccinated with. How old is he. How many children do I have. What vaccinations have they all had. She wanted his birth date.
I know it's not about BF...but jeeeez...I just find it strange that they're so persistant when I've made my self clear.

AA,

You are NOT required to take any survey that the government is calling about.  Next time they call, ask for the supervisor, then ask for THEIR supervisor, and let them know that it's none of their business.  If you can't get to a supervisor (and get their name and phone number), you're being scammed.  Call the police and report the bastards.

It was just so ....strange! they wanted all this info from me, and I politely told her "I'm not interested in taking this survey" she sounded so flustered and unsure about what to say. Then said she needed to talk to her supervisor about how to proceed. I didn't want to wait around while they fiddled their thumbs and tried to convince me to take the dang survey, so I hung up. Then they kept calling me back! I just let the phone ring.....
Creepy. I will talk to the Sup. Carpenter. I had to go grab my son,though..so I didn't have time to waste on them.

One technique that is ALWAYS effective is to use the same procedure that large corpoartions use when you call and get the recording "For quality assurance, your call may be monitored or recorded."

Turn on the tape recorder, say this on the tape and they will NEVER call back.

I think its a scam of some kind.  If you asked what the CDC <-- meant
it would probably NOT be the Center for Disease Control but rather
something like Child Development Center (CDC) or some crap like that to get you on some mailing list - telemarketer technique. Who knows maybe its a creepy neighbor.  OPT OUT
Did you ever call the CDC in DC to find out if there is/was such a survey going on?  Sounds totally bogus to me.

They said "Center for Disease Control"

This was the email I received when I contacted their department via email and asked if they were, infact, the ones conducting this survey:

Thank you for your interest in CDC. CDC does participate in various surveys across the U.S. that typically pertain to specific diseases and conditions. In order for CDC to verify this particular survey, please specify the topic.

Thanks,

You're a genius. That is BEST suggestion I've heard in a long time and I'm going to do it the next time I get an annoying phone call. Thanx JM.

I agree with MajDad.

There are all kinds of nutcases, but the truly horrific cases seem to be women who want kids but can't have them, act like they are pregnant, then go kill a mother to get her child.

AA,
I understand that this may be frustrating and seem a bit creepy and intrusive but maybe the CDC is doing this to you because you live in AK. I do know that AK is getting alot of scientific study and I am sure that the environment, and all of the residents are under a microscope so they (the CDC) can attempt (notice I did say attempt) to isolate who has and has not been vaccinated as well as any and all feedback that they can get from the citizens of AK in an attemt to help eliminate risk factors and what not. You are not under any obligation to participate in these surveys and I would say that if they continue to keep calling, just ask to speak to a supervisor when the representative contacts you and then let the supervisor have it!! I know there is nothing more irritating than intrusive phone calls, whether they be from survey takers, appointment setters, or solicitors! They irritate me so bad that I always think of something that really throws them off! LOL! I have to alow myself to chuckle about it or I will be angry. If I do it my way, then the joke is on them and I just know they are hanging up thinking that I was the most bizarre phone call they have made all day. Best of luck to you AA...I hope they stop pestering you soon and leave you alone!!!

Tell them point blank how you feel:  inspite of the fact that you said you did not want to take their survey, they have repeatedly called you and it is no longer just an annoyance, but harrassment.  Ask for their name, number and supervisor and tell them calmly that you feel you must report this to the police.  I would also e-mail the CDC back and tell them you do not appreciate their tactics.  Good Luck and let us know what they say!

Tell them to stop calling, hang-up. Get a whistle and blow it in their ear when they call back.

It is for this very reason that I pay a little extra to the telephone company each month for caller ID.   I see the name and number of every caller.

If an incoming call comes up as "anonymous" or "unavailable", I frequently let it ring and ignore it.

If I am expecting a call from someone whose number is unlisted, I may pick up the call that comes in as "anonymous", but if it happens to be a call I do not wish to respond to, I stop the person immediately with this:     "We _never_ respond to anonymous callers.   If you want information from us, please contact us by mail."   Then I hang up.

I think I have found that survey!

The National Immunization Survey

The National Immunization Survey (NIS) is sponsored by the National Immunization Program (NIP) and conducted jointly by NIP and the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The NIS is a list-assisted random-digit-dialing telephone survey followed by a mailed survey to children’s immunization providers that began data collection in April 1994 to monitor childhood immunization coverage.

Maybe this is the one?  I'd of been creeped out too.

In a perfect world, you should be able to contact them and get off their list or call your congressman!!

So now every child sexual predator has a cover story, courtesy of the CDC?

If they want to survey parents of small kids, the smart way would be to survey 2 places:

1. Pediatrician offices
2. Child care facilities

I would contact the CDC and ask. They should be able to verify that they are doing a survey. Then you an tell them to leave you alone, that their unwanted calls are a form of harassment

AlaskaAquarian, they have called my home three times.  If it continues I plan on calling my local police department.  Hopefully I'll be able to get some answers from them.  With so many perdators out there, I don't trust anyone calling my home asking how many children I have.

Call a bad number and record the message stating this is not a working number.  Use this recording for your answering machine and tell your friends and family what you have done.  Most organizations will remove you from their list.

I have selective call forwarding. I locate a phone number which reports, "We're sorry, the number you have reached has been disconnected. No further information is available."

I add the phone number of the annoying telemarketer to the selective forwarding list and they are then forwarded to the disconnected number message. If I don't know the caller's number, I add all "unknown" or "anonymous" callers to the forwarding for about a week (this is usually enough!).

I do this after I've asked them to stop calling and they continue anyway. Get the caller's name and ask them straight out to be removed from their calling list and placed on their private do-not-call list.  Tell them they are now on notice and if they call again you will report them and they will be subject to fines. Tell them you are keeping records of all calls and recording details of this conversation.

Forwarding to a disconnection message is the easiest and best way to be removed from persistent caller's lists. After all, they don't want to waste their own time, only yours.

(Make sure your number is also in the government's do-not-call list). If someone calls, ask them why they called you when you're on this National do-not-call list.
