Hi all

vicky from the Uk here.

Just wondering how many of you are buying/already bought protective suits,and/or maskes, gloves, shoe covers,goggles....

How many of each do you plan to buy per person in your household?

Will you be having to go to work so need lots? or staying home ,hermit wise, only venturing out when absoloutley necessary?

I myself have ordered a family 200 kit from surviveall.co.uk-this provides masks, gloves, hand wash and goggles for a few of us-based on 6 adults that is 33 FFP3 respirators each,66 pairs of gloves each, one goggles each and one bottle hand scrub each.

then I bought 25 XXL tyvek coveralls, some for my partner, some for my brother, some for father in law,all of whom work from home.and 10 in a medium and 10 in a small.

I don't plan on going out unless absoloutley necessary but obviously will go stir crazy if i cant go out at some point.I'm a stay at home mum anyway,so don't need to freak out over having to go to work in the midst of a pandemic,if it happens.

I have bought latex gloves, surgical hair covers, surgical, shoe covers, covers for clothes, but can't find the pant covers yet.  Disposible sheets, med supplies etc...  N95 and Nano masks.  Need to get goggles or face protection.

Where did you get your protective suits and what are the called?

thanks in advance.

I managed to find a job lot of the recommended suits on ebay in the Uk for a brilliant price,so you can try there.

They are meant to be worn over you normal day clothes,I'm not sure what you already have as you say you have "clothes covers"??

The suits are called TYVEK and are hooded and some come with inbuilt foot covers.Type in "TYVEK COVERALLS " or "TYVEK SUITS" or similar, followed by UK/USA/CANADA or wherever you live, this will bring up only pages in your country.where do you live? I got my other size suits from a UK company called "cleanroomshop.co.uk".they also do hand wash, boot and shoe covers, goggles etc. They accept all major credit cards and debit cards too and are quick to deliver, but if you live outsode the UK i would advise buying off a site in your own country to make sure they arrive quickly, air mail can sometimes take longer than you expect.

don't forget masks!

good luck

I am not getting any suits. I don't feel it is neccessary. I have lots of masks, goggles, glasses. I will be staying home and not venturing out. If I need to go out into the public I will get into hot tub and let the chlorine sanitize my clothes before removing them outside and putting them in plastic bags to be washed. This is a flu bug we are talking about. Not chemical warfare.

I will be staying home too,but if  the supermarkets did actually get supplies in now and then, and we were allowed rations, then i might need to go,for fresh produce, even though i have supllies,so would rather have a suit on for that, just incase.Probably look like a right plonker though!! i have only got a certain amount of suits, but more masks and gloves.

Be careful of fresh produce. No way to dis infect it. And somebody had to pick it, process it. Package it, ETC. Anything you can't cook I would be worried about. The suit would be the least of my worries. My oppinion.

I would focus more on a green house and my own seeds and soil..some of these items I have already prepped...we may have to grow our own veggies and fruits....and I would rather trust my own during the waves then store bought..and a green house would be a perfect way to grow safe produce...

I have even grown veggies in my front windows...and tried in my basement with lights..but I got ill and had to trash the idea...invest in a few indoor gardening books...

Now I do have googles(swimming googles) and I have a few masks, but I am really prepping more to stay indoors..I would be so scared,it would just take that one small thing to set this off in your house..so big thoughts on going out..

me and my partner both think we would become hermits (we have a son  aged 2),but i've ordered some suits "just incase" for any reason any of our family may need them.Realistically,i will have to take our son for walks-we have a large "green" outside our door, its like a "square" of houses with a green area in the middle.I would imagine gloves and masks would be suffice for that, and then thorough decontaminating b4 coming back inside the house.Obviously would only walk only if no-one else there. The garden we have is too small to grow vege in unfortunately :(

good point about buying fresh produce-i had not thought of that.just as well I've got umpteen cans of ready-fried onions and other vege then, and fruit.

I won't be buying suits.  If it gets to the point that they are needed I hope to limit, prevent contact.  I am going to refer to my expierences frequently when I post realizing that they are just my opinion.

In world war II the first things that got chunked were gas masks because you simply can not maintain them or operate for extended periods of time.  In my day the masks (the 80s) had charcoal filters on the inside that on a good day took me 5 minutes to change.  The suits were called mopp suits and they were heavy because they were charcoal impregnated.  We conducted operations in them to include high altitude parachute jumps at least once a year.  This garb was different because it served as a chemical suit as well (nereve gas).  The thought though of being able to get a suit on and off in a contaminated area with out training or support will be difficult I believe to achieve.  It was difficult with support & training.  Masks I believe help because it reminds people to keep their hands from their mouth.  It is cost prohibitive for me to buy, eye shields, masks, and tyvek suits for a family of four to use for extended periods as well.  I won't be purchasing any - and these are items that are used where I work, purchased in bulk - paint suits.  I work as project manager for a steel fabrication company.

To me the relationship is the frame of mind you have when firing a single shot weapon or a weapon with 30 rounds.  You can bet the guy with the single shot has a different frame of mind when he pulls the trigger.  I am going to stay away from people if H2H occurs - to the best of my ability.

i bought the tyvek siuts but not silly amounts off them and got a great deal on ebay.I'd just feel safer in one if i had to go near the public for any reason during a really contagious period,i haven't had the experience you have and the confidence that comes with that.Still,my partner is an artist so one way or the other they will get used  :)

I believe your thought to have some is a good idea - just consider them as a last resort, like taking someoe to the hospital during a pandemic.  The suits themselves have many uses.  If you have a bugout bag it wouldn't be bad to have one in your bag.  They generally have a coating that will bead water for awhile, they shed wind well - they stick out if your trying to avoid attention.  Your artist partner might could make you a cammoflauge tyvek suit - which would be neat to have in a bag.

WHAT IF YOU HAVE TO CARE FOR SOMEONE WHO IS ILL.  LET'S JUST SAY.  YOU GONNA WALK IN THAT ROOM WITH NOTHING ON BUT REGULAR CLOTHES?  I'M NOT.  AND IF AND ONLY IF I NEED TO GO OUTSIDE.  I WON'T BE TAKING ANY WALKS OR ANYTHING.

Unless you were planning on spending many hours around
sick infected people, a suit is not necessary, a good mask, hand washing
and common sense should protect an individual adequately. There a number
of good suggestions listed in posts elsewhere that can provide this
information. Use the search engine feature, in this forum to look for topics
titles or do key word seaches of the contents as well. There are quite a few
medical people here as well and they can advise you. You can also email
them directly to ask question using the " Private Messenger" feature (upper
right hand corner of your page)

I ordered some disposable gowns from a med. online company. If
caring for an ill person, that is what I would wear over ordinary clothes,
pluss mask, goggles, gloves, shoe and hair protectors.

If we are quarantined, etc. i think most of us would be in sweatpants,
tshirts, then shorts, tshirts in summer. all old (buy in second hand store
like Value
Village, Goodwill) so they can be washed often in bleach and/or hydrogen
peroxide/baking soda mix. I think it would be hopeless to try to take
someone into town for medical care. But what do I know. Just not
preparing
to do that.
Rocky

PS Still looking for good eye protection that can go over glasses and be
disinfected after every use. Heelp!!
Prepare for the Unexpected!
