Was looking at the Indonesian news about outbreaks in humans. There are patients trickling into hospitals daily. Suspected cases, likely cases, family cases, baby cases.
But the trend is obvious. This horrible disease is targeting the young. It effects many babies, children and young people. Time and time again that is what they are seeing. They dont know why.
This is still very scary to think about as a mother.

I do believe that in Indonesia it is a fact of life that young girls and women, and children in general, take care of the livestock. They sometimes sleep with the poultry, they kill the chickens and pluck them, they are surrounded by the blood and do not have the understanding we have about proper hygiene techniques. In some places they drink the blood of chickens for special rituals.

Its true Therese the disease is endemic in birds. Although yesterday there was a news article where a whole family had symptoms and there was no contact with birds.
