How do you prepare for something like losing a life? When its all said and done and regretfully you die and you leave your family behind who will decide who get what? i know its a little off topic but its relevant because preparing financially is better than suffering through this.

You already know what the flu is and how it is going to happen, im offering something you could use and benefit from, im talking about WILLS. who gets your estate? especially if it doesnt cost you an arm or a leg we would all have one. but they are about 150 a pop! and thats the lowest ive seen. i recommend you do what i did. go to www.protectyourselfnow.co.nr  and review the family legal service plan and see what you think, included in the package is a will package that i found easy to obtain, and now i hold physical evidence of where my property will be appropriated in the event of my death.

I encourage you to prepare for this by any means necessary, this isnt like Y2k, this has happened before and it'll happen again, gather your stores of food and save emergency cash, tell your family, let them know the risks and for heavens sake, get protective filtration wen it does arrive!

I have seen quite a few wills in the last few years and none of them allow for the kind of action that we may now be facing. There is almost always a list of alternative beneficiaries but in a really serious pandemic this may need to be expanded.

It's an awful subject, I know, but you wouldn't want to leave your wedge to the lawyers or the tax man, would you?

Early on in my BF forum days I posited the possibility that the government would confiscate all estates of people with no immediate family members remaining alive.

I still think it's a possibility and possibly a good way to get the country back on its feet post pandemic.

After all, the Estate Tax is meant to be confiscatory and a tool at wealth re-distribution.

SophiaZoe: I hope you know what we are feeling for you. I won't labour the point because I don't think that you would want it that way. Hope you manage to get SOME sleep.

The frightening thing about your suggestion is that it is workable. They would need to draft quite a complex bill in order to placate the Churches, Charities and Trust Funds but it could be done.

Tough question!

My father died about a month ago, and he had made some pretty good plans, while messing up a few, too.

Most of the assets and accounts were jointly held by he and my mother, and those things transfered to her automatically. He had one savings account in his name alone, and the same for his car. These 2 things are a big pain in the butt, and have to go through probate process.

He had also started a "Living Trust" recently, and moved a couple of things into there. This has worked really well, and is the easiest way to transfer things. Of course, you should also have a will, where you may list specific items, and name as many people in a line of succession as you like.

He also had health care directives, also known as a "Living Will", so that he would not have to live on life support for extended periods, when there is no chance of survival. Unfortunately, we had to invoke these wishes on his behalf.

If the Living Trust is available to you, you should take a look at it.
